How important is a well-rounded winning game?

Postby Gentleman Khan » Sun, 22 Jul 2012 18:11

Hi, this is my first post in the forums so apologies if I make any faux-pas!

I just wanted to gauge opinion on something really - although winning is obviously what players want to do, how important is having a diverse game to you guys?

I must confess, when first getting into Topspin, I used to be a devoted baseliner - with an arsenal pretty much consisting of two shots. However i soon found myself getting tired of this kind of repetitive gameplay, regardless of how successful it was.

However since trying different players and styles - particularly net play, I find that not only my results are improving, but also my enjoyment of playing the game has improved - and for me this is down to the diversity of how I try to play.

Obviously nobody likes playing against any kind of opponent that spams the same shots, so how do you guys try and keep your opponents guessing?

But I think this is exactly the point I'm getting at - I, personally, am not interested in a repetitive, two-button, boring-ass game. To be honest I don't even mind losing, so long as my opponent doesn't spam me to death with "cheese" as it seems to be referred to here.

Perhaps I'm not asking about how succesful people find a diverse game but rather how enjoyable people find it.

On top spin 3, I made a decision to play how I wanted to, and not what would bring the most success, and so I mostly played SV and used burns in the sim tour who was probably the weakest player. It suited me though and I could take at least a set off anyone, even the very top guys. Occasionally I would use a stacked player but I did t like to play that way. If anything though, my matches were always fair and a lot of fun haha

Yeah...control shot spamming has dumbed
down this game BIG TIME. This style seems to be the trend here and has since bled into World Tour. It's no reason to ban coaches or have modified setup rules since spamming control shots will ALWAYS win.

Why are all posts turning into a ts4 vs ts3 debate/slagging off ts4 posts?

It is what it is...if you don't like ts4 then just don't play it. Don't make endless posts saying how bad it is

Haha sorry I was just making the point that everybody seems to be debating ts4 vs ts3 of late.

You may have answered it but you slagged ts4 off (again) in the process.

Good luck with te. I would play that if it was a console game...tennis games don't feel right without a controller.

Edit; Can't be dealing with ts4 discussions actually. Not on this forum for arguments

It don't take too long to get used to using a keyboard for a game, especially a tennis one.

iBullet, ciao

I play TE also with the PS3 pad, very easy to install. And you can choice the assignment of the keys by your own preference.

BUT CAUTION!!
If you try TE and know with practice, how it works, well... then it will be very difficult, to play TS again...

I think extreme Gallo and Babb can win over control shots, if they are used properly.

It is important to be well rounded but not to play with a well rounded player.

Tennis Elbow is definitely easy to play with a Pad dude. You just connect an Xbox gamepad or even a PS3 gamepad in USB and it works as an xbox game.

It's even more reactive !
