I love creatine it makes me feel like superman. I just hate pissing all the time. I'm sure you can do it my father was a vegetarian for a long time and my mother has been one for 15+ years and swears by it. If you're laying off red meat just make sure you don't accidentally eat any or you'll be on the toilet all night! :wink:

When I feel like I need protein or after a workout, i usually drink egg whites. You can by them at a grocery store, and not too expensive. Pretty easy way to get protein.

If your an sportsman you need to eat carbohydrates every day, thats simple, i'm saying this because i know friends who had problems in the past with all these stuff. You know... everyone wants to be the guy with biggest muscles when the summer starts, and they follow "bad" "unhealthy" diets.

Hmm, I always feel bad when I eat a lot of rice/pasta/bread, I guess it fills you up very quickly.

salmonella is one reason not to do it. Your body doesn't have the digestive enzymes to digest the protein in raw eggs, you better cook them. One in 10k eggs is infected.

The quality of boiled egg protein is almost the same as raw. Funny enough, fried egg protein has better quality then boiled.

Nuts have loads of protein and are full of fibre... that could be good for your transit :)

yes carbs and veg should be the main backbone of all meals, you should eat those aliments every day, people always feel guilty because if you're a sedentary person you'll gain weight, if you're an active person you shouldn't be worried about it.
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

Hey Al! Sorry, feels like I got to the party a bit late :D

I'm not a food-specialist, or doctor of anything - i do have 2 degrees....in Matematics and Physics, and Software Engineering....and a healthy interest in food, largely because of issues my wife has had in the past - it's also fair to say that although I am vegan, I probably would not be, nor even vegetarian were it not for my wife's influence - while at the same time being true that if she suddenly to vanish in a puff of righteous vegan-smoke this instant, I would not go back to dairy or meat consumption - mostly for health reasons :)

Sorry to hear about the problems you've been having man...likewise sorry to say I don't know what is causing them. If it is indeed diet, which seems massively likely then I would seriously consider....just consider going full vegan, for a month - or 2 weeks if a month feels too long? The reason I suggest this is for health, not animal-rights - the vegan diet is really closest to the one we evolved with - your body will thank you, and if you have no episodes similar to the one's you've described, you could then start re-introducing ingredients slowly, and one at a time, to determine better which one(s) are causing the biggest problems.

I didn't just read one or two articles, or books, or dip into one or two studies on the subject of vegan-diet - having done a little of this, and gotten annoyed with the differing opinions, I read 'The China Study', by Prof T Colin Campbell, which is a collection of studies, conducted with large populations over a very long time - it's scientifically presented - ie you can fully examine how he arrived at his conclusions - disprove them if you can, i know i tried hard and ultimately failed.

Casein....man....cut that glue the hell out of your diet for absolute starters!!!!! It's from COW'S MILK!!!!!! Human beings have not evolved to drink this or ingest it in foods (cheese etc) - over a long period of time, it is responsible wholly and singly for a wide range of chronic illnesses - not only do you not need it in your diet, you absolutely do not WANT it there!!!!!


It feels like a big wrench/tear, switching diet in any way, never mind something as 'drastic' as omnivore to vegetarian, never mind vegetarian to vegan - that's ok too - most of what you're fighting is the 'stay in the comfy zone' urge, and simple inertia - if you lived fully vegan all your life, and now wanted to switch to omnivore, you would find the prospect/transition just as hard to envisage - the good news is this - the benefits to your health and senses are immediate, and you can do it these days without too much trauma too - I drink coffee and have burgers and sausages regularly - the coffee doesn't have cow's milk in it - I'm used to soy-milk now, and the burgers/sausages are soy-mixes (great source of protein right there) from the supermarket.

Seriously - it sounds like the problems you have are dispiriting and painful - the very worst that a 2-week (or 1 month!) vegan diet will do are a) give you a slight headache until you 'learn' the new foods and where to get them....and b) make you feel a whole pile better!

Drop me a PM if like - I can recommend some great (american) sites with recipe recommendations - in fact, if I was your doctor and I couldn't persuade you to try the vegan thing, I'd really try to get you to quit all dairy for a month, while maintaining your meat diet - casein is soooooooooooooooooooo bad man, it really is - over time, it exhibits ALL the properties/characteristics of a chronic carcinogen.

I have been a vegetarian for 25 years. My recommendation: pizza, beer, multi-vitamin. Consume daily and you're good to go. 8)

What about coffee? I try to limit to about two cups of (good) coffee per day, but sometimes when I'm working, I'll drink 6+...

Quite right about the name Sanchez - was using 'baldy celt' for a long time...as a somewhat baldy irish man, seemed apt...then to continue using it, I had to start putting numbers at the end....so went to beltic....voila :)

Re Coffee - no idea on health benefits/hazards - in general, good idea to limit stimulants as much as can, but have to say, do love several big mugs a day myself....with soya milk, naturally :D

Soya milk goes pretty well in coffee, although if it's really good coffee, then black is even better.

nice one Cro and happy days! sounds like you've got a good set of genes there - some of us more blessed in that sense than others, but regardless - study after study show the same basic 'fact' - genes may 'load the gun', but diet pulls the trigger...it sounds like Al's trigger is being pulled....with the great news (if that is the case) being that changing diet, while being kinda daunting, is not as difficult as we build it up to be...I know this from experience :D
