Timing

Postby edlglide » Fri, 24 Feb 2012 17:32

Anyone else randomly have matches where they suddenly can't hit any shots?

It's probably the most frustrating thing about this game -- and it's entirely about the user, which makes it worse since you know it's your own fault. I just played a match where I couldn't get perfect timing....I probably hit 15 shots the entire match with perfect timing. There were so many times I should have been able to step up and put a ball away, but I just couldn't get the timing right.

My serve is usually my strongest attribute and I couldn't even do that -- when I was actually putting them in the box they weren't anywhere near the lines.

It's one thing to lose....I've got plenty of experience with that. It's another thing entirely to not even be in the match because you can't hit a decent ground stroke to save your life -- and I've now done that for two straight ITST matches. Just awful.

Speaking from experience, I would say more sleep, less beer.

Lag could also be a big issue.

Nah, I don't think there was any lag -- I just couldn't find the timing. I finally started hitting decent serves and shots in the last two games of the match when it was already over.

Although it does make me wonder if the different courts create slightly different timing -- not different surfaces, but different courts. Like one hard court to another hard court.

In my opinion......Image

Normally for me it's lag. Sometimes though i have matches where i am hitting everything perfect, but the shots arent amazing, and then others where they are mostly good but hitting lines, really strong and accurate etc :?

I don't like that either :x another bug that was not in TS3. In TS3, providing the lag was not there the game run relatively consistent. In TS4 I have matches where I can do no wrong, and then matches where I clearly play the same but the shots have no weight behind them, they feel slow and imprecise. Somehow the game itself is inconsistent.

I have experienced this too.

In some courts, especially Hamburg Stadhalle and Toronto, I just can't find the perfect timing..

I don't know. I think there's more weird stuff with TS4 some times. Played against Firderis again today. After getting a "session is unavailable", I was able to connect to him on the second try. We usually have tight matches and often going to deuce before games are decided. However today/tonight, he just rammed over me in all our matches. I was totally unable to put any pressure on him at all. None of my shots were good. I could hit power shots with perfect timing, but they all just bounced right in the middle of the court. No matter what. Also, he could return my serves with more pace than the actual serve. We have played maybe 8 or 9 matches now. Never before have he returned like today.

Afterwards, I went to WT and couldn't connect to anyone. Got into the "endless" cycle of "finding the best opponent" three times in a row. Then after rebooting my ps3, I could connect immediately with no problems and my shots were just like yesterday again.

It seems to me that this game sometimes just doesn't work properly. Anyone else experienced anything similar to this?

I confirm the fact that some courts are really less reactive than others.
The most reactive are some of the grass courts (not everyone) + US Open

Cincinnati is the worst court in the game. When you're playing against the sun, the ball seems to disappear when your opponent just hits it back. It then "reappears" after crossing the net, giving you half the reaction time you'd have on other courts. Granted, my eyes aren't the best but the court design is just ridiculous.

My favourite is Shanghai. Strong contrast, serve clock in plain sight and I love playing on carpet.

I don't like Chile, no ball shadow so can't read the depth very well. Of course my favourite ones are grass :) Boston bay and thorsen brom.

Dunno, grass court always look like they're populated by a cow herd when there's no tennis match going on.

And yeah, indoor courts in general are nice except the one in Sweden where everything is in bright colours and you feel like playing on stained glass. Does the court actually exist irl?

I don't like the muffled sound effects in indoor courts. And I think thorsen brom and American tennis garden are unworn grass courts

I like the popping noise when the ball hits the carpet :)

The Swedish tennis hall I was talking about is Stavgaard and has a Hardcourt. The colour scheme there kinda sucks.
