The worst ever commercial launch of a tennis game !

Postby C4iLL » Sat, 18 Feb 2012 12:36

Week n°1 sales of GST2 on Xbox = 2.900
Week n°1 sales of TS4 on Xbox = 22.000

Week n°1 sales of GST2 on PS3 = 7.636
Week n°1 sales of TS4 on PS3 = 26.000

After 10 weeks of commercialisation of TS4 :
Sales on Xbox = 4.815
Sales on PS3 = 7.750

TS4 made more sales during its tenth week, than GST2 during its first week ! What an historic fail

Compare to GST on Wii:

1st week: 42.005

10th week: 13.873

The Wii version was true quality regarding gameplay and the sales were solid.

TS3 on Wii sold the best out of all the TS3 versions - yet it was the worst home console version.

Obviously the attempts in putting out more casual tennis games are (relative) failures: Tennis is a niche sports genre and usually only played by true tennis fans, they should be the focus.

EA should have priced the game at $11,999,999.99 instead of $49.99. Granted, at that price, less people would be inclined to buy, but EA would only have had to sell one game to make a profit.

After 4-5 weeks, only 45-50K units were sold (PS3 and Xbox).
Top Spin 4 = 600K

Since 2012, TS4 = 50K sales, a great statistic !

Good to see that gamers, for the most part, refused to drink the EA Kool-Aid.

Don't think it's just because of EA but because GST2 is an awful, unfinished game. EA Sports can do better.

And good to see so many new players getting into TS4.
