Unfortunately after playing Pasta and Mike....

Postby JayFro » Fri, 17 Feb 2012 08:51

I'm done with the game in any serious way unless they patch it. I took an 0-3, 0-3 versus Pasta and the same against Mike. It's really as simple as hitting a deep slice and coming in behind it or serve and volleying and putting the ball away with a power volley. Unless EA patches this game it's done, and I'm currently 75 in the online rankings with only 2 defeats. The passing shots just aren't anywhere near good enough, and the ability of the netrusher to hug the net so tight just gives you no chance if they know what they are doing.

We need a patch EA!

Introducing touch of the net would solve this... :P

Ok, Im still thinking that a good baseline/allround style can beat a good S&V/netrush style every day, but I can feel your pain. It is no secret that this game favours netplay. And playing baseline only - trying to play in a "realistic and fair" way - against a good netrusher can be really frustrating.

So I agree with you, we need a patch. Not necessarily because netrushing is unbeatable, but the gameplay is just not balanced.

The questions are:
Will EA release a patch?
What can we do to motivate EA to release a patch? (Does ITST have contact with EA djarvik?)
How should this patch look like?

My try:
It must be something simple. It must be assured that there is no new imbalance.
Therefore the idea of speeding up the groundstrokes from other threads sounds good at first, but I guess it is not that easily programmable and I could also imagine an imbalance in the serve and return game then. (Unreachable rocket returns for example)
I think the game engine itself is pretty solid. So my idea EA: Just reduce the volley stat of every player about 25 attribute points. Do it in the background. Leave everything else as it is. In the menus Sampras can still show volley stat 100, but ingame he should act like he have volley 75.(All other pros and created players analog -25)
You would be still able to S&V and to finish points off at the net, but volleys wouldnt be that hard and covering the full net not so easy. I think everybody that played the demo would agree that passing Nadal at the net was much more easier than passing Djokovic.
Given that you can play against your own creations there should be no problems for the PRO AI to handle the change. And I think it is very easy to implement as you use only the existing engine.

What do you think?

This kind of a game isn't worth wasting 2 minutes to complain about. I mean, can you mention at least one good thing about it?

LOL and people though TS4 was bad, is obvious that this game is much more arcade and unrealistic than TS4.

Right now, this game feels to me like a "broken Virtua Tennis" game. If you like this game, you will LOVE VT3. Go pick it up for like 5$

I have attempted to contact EA multiple times, they don't wish to interact with us. Too big for us I guess. :? I also think they simply aware of who we are and are aware of the fact that this game they have will NOT be received well. So they avoiding us.

Patch? I think there will be at least one patch. It will address the "Online Pass" issue, which should unlock 6 games per set along with other options. That was the intent from the start, but something went wrong. You can see that your Online Pass is inactive - hence limited choices in player match setup. My opinion, not official.

It sounds to me as if the developers just released the version that was put on hold back in 2009:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1013366p1.html

Everything from controls to animations seems not to have improved a bit since then, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is no patch to be released. GST 2 simply cannot replace GST - time to repair the disc drive from my Wii.

Another aspect not to ignore: Just one week after its release you only get around 23 € for GST 2 via Amazon Games Trade-In.

djarvik, it was said that recenemente 2K Sorts did not get the expected profit to TS4. Does all of us, lovers of Tennis Virtual SIM, we will be orphaned long years for another game?? Do you have any information?? Of course with an injury, hardly another project named Top Spin could be affected. Grand Slam Tennis 2 could not be either SIM or Arcade.

You come to the net every point, you certainly don't stay back. And you return serve and rush the net right after, I'd say you rush the net every point, I recorded the match so its not like there isn't a strong case that this game is horribly unbalanced.

This game unfortunately is the furthest thing from actual tennis, all it needs is some tweaking to make it a little more realistic.

Well, the only VT game worth playing is VT3. Fun, fun, fun.

The rest suck.

GST2 appears to be more broken then ANY tennis game made in the last few years.

I cannot take any developer serious that makes these mistakes:

- Rafa, Nole and all two handers hitting Top Spin and Flat shot with one hand
- Slicing with two hands while clearly hitting OVER the ball

Everything else could be overlooked, not this. This is bad, really bad.

This is equivalent of making a Basketball game where players using a Soccer ball, probably even worse. Who ever sign-off on the game for the release in the current state didn't watch a single match of tennis in his life, it appears he was briefed about the game just before signing off on the project. Sorta like: "Hey, it is a sport, right, where players hold this stick with a bunch of string in it. They attempt to swing it at incoming ball and put it over the net.....yeah, there is a net...." ....the guys goes: "Ball - check, Net - check, Players - do we really need 2? 4?!?! naahh lets keep it at 2, enough - check. OK good-to-go guys, lets get that out there and make some money!"

Of course this is meant as a joke, but damn, this is the impression I get. It can still be a fun game - just call it something else, not tennis.
