The cat is overweight - that's the problem.

Paul, I know one cool cat that fell 7 stories high, then another 3 - in one day. Still alive and running around. The worst case scenario for cats are the 2-3 story falls. The first reaction after losing balance in cats is to tens-up, then they realize they are falling and actually relax, which allows them to softly land with no damage.
