Control Top Spin 4 with a Fight Stick *smile*

Postby o Sinna o » Sun, 22 Jan 2012 21:50

Hey Guys,

just tried this out.

I have a quality Fightstick called Streetfighter Fightstick Tournament Edition, which I bought a few Years ago with the Streetfighter 4 Release and never used it really consistent. This Unit has original Sanwa Denshi Components which you can find in japanese Arcades.

I just thought about the Possibility to control the Game with a better D-Pad than the one from the original Xbox 360 Controller.

And what should I say? It works really good!

I hit some crazy Angles from crazy Situations which I didn't hit with the Controller before.

The only Handicap you have with this Controlunit is that you can't serve with the Stick. But you don't have to and some of you Guys are serving with the Buttons anyway.

Did somebody of you Guys ever thought on this Control Possibility?

I just had a close second Set against Nadal on very hard and won four ServicegameS, but I have no Practice with this Stick combined with Top Spin 4 at all.

So I am really thinking about to use this Unit for the future to get good one day because the Game ist absolutely playable with it apart from the right Servestick.

I would have to practice alot and would be probably the only one who controls this Game this way, but I'll see. :D

This is my and the Stick I mean.

Don't know if you are serious (^^), but it's really a Option to control. What you have to get used to at most are the Directionturns with the Stick. I mean to control them fast enough because it just easier with a Thumb and a Analogstick than with the whole Hand on the Arcadestick. I mean at least if you are a Noob with it because theoretical it's as fast as the Analogstick or the D-Pad but you need practice. I am clearly not so good as with the Controller, but that's not because this Fightstick is improperly.
Just wanted to let you know. I didn't use this Stick more than three Years now and it was full of Dust but it's maybe useful now.

It's fun.

This Stick is one of the best simple eight ways Directioncontrols you can have and better to control than any D-Pad, but it's made for Fightgames of course and you have to get used to.

Is this giving an unfair advantage?

Yep, the Stick was not so expensive as it is now as I bought it in 2008 of course.

I remember this Time. It was so hard to get one here in Germany that I bought it for 220 Euros over ebay. New of course. The official Price was 150 Euros.

This Stick was limited and I mean really limited and not pseudo-limited. ^^

But if you like one maybe you can find one to a fair Price. And if not, it doesn't have to be this model.

I guess there a few Possibilities on the Market to get a quality Unit.

Nope it's just a good, precise and simple Direction- and Button-Control you know. There is no Secret behind such a Stick.

Here you can get one for a fair Price. I just watched out after it and didn't knew that a second Version came out which has the same Quality Sanwa Denshi Stick and Buttons. Just saw it the first Time.

If somebody likes one.

It's really a Quality-Unit and bigger than you may think. And if you don't trust me, take a look at the Consumer-Opinions. But why you shouldn't trust me. :)

They are also available for PS3 on amazon.

http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002V0W ... 231EW5NTFD

I'll just ordered one for Reserve. ^^

If I don't need it I can sell it anytime to get my money back.

And by the way. These Sanwa Denshi Buttons and the Stick are replaceable at any time if something is defect.

But you can compare the Durability with a original Xbox 360 Controller I guess and such a Unit lasts long.

Just as a Information.

Just won my first Set in the Tie-Break against Nadal on very hard. Six Games per Set.

But you can imagine how low my Skill with the Stick is. Some Guys of you beat the CPU on this Level to zero while sleep.

But it's fun.

I'll see if I can improve my Skill with the Stick in the next Days.

If not it wasn't more than a nice Try. But I am sure it's possible to play as good as with the Controller, apart from the Stick Serve of course.

You can hit crazy angles from funny Positions with it. But of course only so much as the Game allows it. Means all you can to with the Arcadestick you can theoretical do with the Controller.

But it might be that some Situations are easier to handle with it and some not.

I improved a lil bit. Was my first break in a full Set and won the first Set 6:3 on very hard against Nadal.

You can hit Dream-Angles with this Unit.

But my weak Point is still positioning with it. It seems that it's easier to catch me on the wrong foot than with the Controller.

But even this is a question of practice what's only logical Guys.

You know top spin 4 is programmed the eight-ways-Direction way.

Means a D-Pad or a Aracadestick is not absolutely the best Choice or a must, but it's all what you need for the Game because the whole Movement reacts only in eight ways (or Directions).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I guess Iam right.

It costs around 220-250€ (new)... But you can find it very easily for 150€ max (second hand)... Via Amazon, or Ebay... That's what I did, and I'm very glad with it !
But like you said, it's still very expensive for a stick, specially if you won't play a lot with it...
Some are fine, and cheaper !
Arcade stick Hori (good ones, and often cheaper ones) search on Ebay :

Note how often 1$=1€ in video-games stuff...

Mmhh.. I'm not 100% sure, but, to me, it was not very limited... It was quite easy to find and it still is... Maybe not in Germany... ^^

But I'll try your technique ! It must be fun to try anyway ! :)

It's not only fun to try it. You can really compete with this Stick.

Yesterday I had my frist two Onlinematches where I finally had the Feeling that I can do everything in Point of Shotplacement what's possible ingame you know. I lost the first and won the second Match against the same Guy.

That's what I missed short after the Release. I mean the Online-Feeling to have a Chance against everybody on the Court and this wasn't possible in the Beginning because of my Shotplacement.

Ofcourse I can't win against anybody, but so long I have the Feeling of full Control about the Game I am pleased. Because this full Control is necessary to compete.

Ok the Arcade Stick Experiment is over.

You know it's not bad and you could really control the Game on its Limit apart from the missing right Analogstick. And it is fun of course.

But the whole Thing is just easier with a normal Controller.

It would last to long to get really good with the Fightstick and not to forget that I would have to abondon on the right Serve Stick.

The Fightstick I ordered over amazon goes back, because I don't need a second one really.

The one I have is full functional and enough. ^^
