I see your point. However, a sub forum would be much harder to moderate for the admins. The posts would be scattered and it would be huge. Besides, every member has an email. If they want to chat with you they will have it displayed or send it to you. Besides, admins can only see your PMs if you participate in a tourney they host, and you do not report a match result. They can not access it anytime they want. PMs on ITST are to be used on ITST matches only, so there should be no privacy issues if it is only used for what it was meant to be used for.

For the record, the hosts can only see the messages sent between two players who are scheduled to meet in a tournament. We cannot see all of your messages.

Also, it states in the rules section of our site that we read your messages to determine match results - therefore, you know when you join that the messages are not actually private, and you should not assume they are.

2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

ITST is not a public authority. The purpose of this law, as I see it, is to prevent government/police/etc from prying into your personal lives. ITST, and it's forums, are privately owned, and thus are not bound by such laws.

Lastly, you should notice that every time it is mentioned, Private Messages is capitalized, which is only used in English for proper nouns, and not for common nouns. Capitalizing the words implies that it is simply the name used to distinguish it from public forum messages, and is not a description of the type of message - in other words, "private message" is not the same as "Private Message".

listen, instead of pointlessly pretending to be concerned with privacy on a site that requires little to none of it, i suggest trying to figure out how to master self-fellatio. you'll be wasting your time the same, but not that of others.

Yeah you're right, so you should try to master it too instead of wasting your time writing stupid messages.

dear miss 100PWR, i have mastered it already. i call it "playing TS4 until my eyes bleed", but it feels just like self-fellatio.

now, remember,
seriousness is in the grundle of the beholder.

and i'm not wasting my time one bit. for example, from you, i'm learning how to type in english with a french attitude.
i thank you kindly.

jest gets lost in translation sometimes.

It's not because you don't care or dont understand a topic that you must insult me... Yes, I assume pretending that I will lose my time trying self-fellatio means that you pretend that I'm short-dicked ;). Moreover, sexuality is forbidden on ITST, don't forget it mate...

More seriously, It's not because you wrote in your rules that you are going to read PM's that it's allowed. By the way, nobody here seems to be shocked by such behaviors so I give up. I don't want to have an endless thread with pro and cons which will never change their minds.

Thanks to listen my point.

tuctuc,
it wasn't my intention to insult you. i alluded to self-fellatio for the sake of humor. never did i mean to insinuate you were short-changed during puberty. and i don't think sexuality is necessarily forbidden on ITST, but rather, sexually-explicit content. if so, i will watch my analogies from now on.

the only point i was trying to make, albeit rudely and crass, was that it's pointless to discuss privacy on this site. of course most people are not shocked because they're not concerned. PM are for match arrangement/reports. that's it. what's so private about that? you have every right every right to be concerned about privacy in general, but not on this site.

and i believe by posting on a forum you are welcoming others opinions with pros/cons regarding any issue. specially an open-ended one like this.

once again, i apologize if my retort seemed personal. it wasn't my intention.
dry humor/sarcasm is really hard to translate sometimes.

good luck with Big Brother.

First, thanks for your answer, you explain how it works without being rude and I appreciate it!

Then, why Admin couldn't access to PMs anytime if it is not a problem?

I think it would be interesting to know if you are using a MOD for PHPBB (I think so). In that case, what about a new development for the MOD that enables admin to read PM only if PM topic contains a certain tag (for example <Match>). Everyone should be happy (except the guy that must do the development for the MOD but I can be that guy if you want ;)).

I know that this solution is unrealistic so as already said, you can lock the topic.

it's unrealistic because it's completely unnecessary.
if you have something truly private you want to send someone, say a naked picture of your dog or a story that describes your weird fetishes involving jello and duct tape, just exchange e-mails with that person and voilá!

again, this is merely an opinion. an exchange of perspectives. as part of an open forum. please don't take it personal. please.

Tuc tuc

PM are for arranging matches with opponents thats it. Would you be happier that instead of PM it was called MCS (match coordination system)??

It would be the same but with a different name on it.... Would that change anything?

Hi there, you should use the PM to arrange your matches, because if deadline arrives and the match is not played the tournament host will decide who goes through next round only, and this is very important, by checking the PMs sent between the 2 opponents.

You have to contact your opponent and offer him your available times to play asking him to choose one
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.
