Tour de France 2011

Postby Saarbrigga » Fri, 22 Jul 2011 15:09

I know cycling lost many fans because of the doping shit but i guess no professional sport is 100% clean.

2 days to paris...and the man in yellow is still the french man thomas voeckler. i cheer for him because he would deserve it so much...but i think evans or andy schleck will win the tour.

Last two stages where epic. Without any big problems during the time trail A.Schleck will win this years tour. Evans is better in the time trail but 57 seconds is just a bit to much.

Andy Schleck vs Cadel Evans in time trails (2011, 2010, 2009)

T-A 2011 (9.3km) +37s
Tour 2010 (8.9km) +30s
Vuelta 2009 (30km) +1m
Vuelta 2009 (4.8km) +19s
Tour 2009 (40.5km) +31s
Tour 2009 (15.5km) +37s
Baskenland 2009 (24km) +1m 51s

Incredible that Voeckler has still stayed in the running and will just miss a podium finish. I still remember his fight to stay in the yellow and white back when Armstrong was still racing, and have cheered for him ever since. He has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen in an athlete.

I like both Schleck and Evans. I would really like to see Evans win finally. Either way, it should be a great finish to the tour. This is the first year I haven't been able to watch it because I am working this summer, but I will be able to watch perhaps a great finish today :D

Yep the last 2 days were epic battles like old style races, about who will end winning in Paris, i think Andy will keep the yellow today, he's not a time trail specialist but he wad training hard during winter to improve and according to other cyclist comments he's now better time trailist than last year

About Voekler... pretty strange what has happened with all the Europcar team, their performance have been impressive...

Hello everybody..I think the performance of Voeckler is not "stranger" that in recent years Contador. Only the Contador, Evans ....... are "cleaner" this year.

let's clarify, nobody is "clean". Ullrich, Virenque, Pantani, Indurain, Armstrong, Landis, Basso, Valverde..................................etc were not "clean" in the past either, and many many players, the point here is that the doctors of those cycling teams are always a step forward than the ones that are doing the tests. It's simple.
If you wanna see 200 km/h stages climbing Galibiers, Tourmalet, Crois de Fer.... with 30 km/h average speed, there's no way you can do that without taking" something", and just having Corn Flakes for breakfast hahaha.
About the Tour, i think everyone is being more careful, because Contador and Andy for example...are not super like the last year.
This year were watching the leader group with 15-20 guys when facing last climbs, and yesterday ( i think it was yesterday) the Europcar had 5 guys for the last climb, don't misunderstand me, but i don't think it's a great team.
Last year Contador and Andy were riding motorbikes, this year are normal guys.

Wow! Europcar is a great team!... People just don't know them... Pierre Roland is one of our futur great rider!... Voeckler is at his best this year...
If we see them a lot, it's more because the "top teams" are riding less quicker... And that's indeed very good sign for cycling...
That said i completely agree with the fact that EVERYBODY used to be charged as hell lately... (And also true for great old champs like Coppi, Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, Fignon,Delgado, Indurain...)...
But I would also like to know what products take soccer players, Rugby players, athletes, swimmers etc....
Cause ok, cycling is a "dirty sport" like Jaylove says, but I strongly believe that Cycling try its best to clean it the more they can, and this is not what I see in NBA, NFL, Fifa, Tennis...

EDIT : Funny how talking about cycling always end the same way... "They're doped as hell! It sucks!" - "Yeah ok, but how is it in other sports?, what do they do?"
-Like that Cesar Cielo problem : positive to a certain kind of product, but excused... A girl was positive with same products, she has been banned for 2 years...

LOL! I'm curious also about that game!
I heard that when you play a stage, you only play some part of that stage : a bit at the beginning, a bit in the middle, and a bit in the end... Doesn't it kill your "strategy"?... I'm quite close to buy this game, but still hesitating cause of that... (the game "simulate" the part you don't play, ignoring what you were trying to do : attacking from the start, etc...)

I think it's not true, if Voeckler was not french you will think he is doped.

Remember in the Tour de France 2007

Michael Rasmussen , a good cyclist , 7th in 2005 2 times King of Mountains, was the leader of this Tour de France and probably gonna win the tour (He get a good margin with the second Alberto Contador).

Michael Rasmussen, was fired by his team because the media pressure who find that so strange Rasmussen gonna win the race, called him "cheater", "doped".
Well the official version is he was fired for "violating internal rules".
Because Davide Cassani, an Italian retired professional rider, reported that he had seen Rasmussen in Italy in June 2007, a time when Rasmussen claimed to have been training in Mexico.
Later, The accusations were denied but Rasmussen carrer was over.

in TOUR DE FRANCE counts not the sport
what counts is ... who is the smartest doping freak ,without getting cought from the dopingcommision .

every cyclist use substances to improve his performances or for better muscels /condition .

thats A fact !!
they only stopp using it ,early enough before the tour starts ,to look "clean""!!

THE TOUR DE FRANCE IS A FARCE in my opinion, same than the GIRO DE ITALIA or other big cycling events
