Drops everywhere.

Postby ANILTJE » Tue, 12 Jul 2011 23:30

Ok.

I haven't been playing much at all. I come every other 3 or for weeks online to play a few matches. But right now it is hitting it climax I think.

I played 10 matches in the WT and only 1 of them was without drops .
I mean not an occasional drop but every point. Or every point a drop volley and even drops from the return of serve .
The matches that wasn't with dropshots was with someone serving out wide. Yey :-)

Now I heard that in ITST and I experienced it that people hit a lot of dropshots and dropvolleys too.
Guys seriously. I know that TS4 allows you to hit these shots and they are effective. But let's not mimic the WT. It's 100 % cheap . Sorry to say so.

For me the whole idea of ITST is to simulate real tennis. Or even somewhat the ATP and WTA.
And to def. be different then the WT.
I'm at ITST cause I am a tennis fan / geek. I know this is a video game. But I want to have the feel of real "tennis" matches.
I will never be able to play Roland Garros or Wimbledon( not talented enough and too old)
So I love ITST for that.

Another thing I noticed is that many guys play with very powerfull setups. Either high FH BH and power . Or high FH BH and enormous speed.
Or high serve etc etc. And preferably with the FH BH both at the same stats.
So the most effective setups not the ones close to tennis :-)
I used some effective ones in the beginning to learn the game. But didn't we already pass that point?
My most fun match I played was against Bagdad . He didn't use a complete power house with fh bh equal. So it was a real match of being the smart one .

I am using "weaker" setups. And although I get some great shots I always get killed by a powershot  .
Honestly I suck at the moment. So maybe that is why. But the matches do get very 1 dimensional.
I honestly like the challenge but I think it's getting a bit too much.

But back to what I wanted to say. The dropshot mania is really too much.
Anyone agrees???

where to begin...

dropshots on WT can be excessive, especially if u come across someone with dropshot artist. the better players actually use dropshots now when they are running behind the baseline  which makes for quite a bs angle!! i think everyone can agree that using dropshots in such a way is not sim and should not take place on ITST.

as for drop volleys, i dont see what youre saying. drop volleys are extremely common in real tennis...so why would these be limited? the problem is that the netplay physics in ts4 are HORRIBLE. if u time it right u can literally hit any ball within 10 ft of your player...the racket doesnt come close to the ball...the animation just magically occurs and walla u return the ball  so maybe part of your frustration is dealing with the physics issues.

tbh, there are TONS of unsim things that occur in ts4. returning, arguably the hardest part of the mens gm, is perhaps the easiest part of ts4 LOL. movement/speed isnt close to simulation...control shots are GREATLY overpowered...angles...fatigue...lobs...u name it and there are flaws and exploits at every level. so i dont know how u can pick and choose 1 area -- drops -- and ignore the others... :(

if people truly wanted something close to sim tennis then stats would have to be max 75 or 80...only bronze coaches...wings couldnt be higher than 60. that would make for a very sim experience. but im sure everyone would cry and whine and say that would be pong lol...so that will never happen.

It's exactly what I was thinking today, and it's the main issue in my opinion. ITST is having more and more success. So people subscribe and community is growing sharply.

But, as you said, actually you can't play a match on the WT without meeting someone who use two or more dropshot a game.

And, who are the new ITST players ? These gamers that you met on WT and who used a lot of dropshot ...

I just don't understand why there isn't a sim tour yet like there was in TS3. I understand ITST is bigger then ever(from what ive heard), and theres not tons of staff to complete site objectives, but I figured there would be a sim tour by now with a list of players to choose from. Wasn't it like that in TS3? The thing about drop volleys in this game is that they are uncounterable. A drop volley with anything except too late timing puts your oppenent in a terrible spot and a easy win of the point for you. I understand drop volleys sometimes, but not every single volley you do almost.

I agree they are common. But every time you come to the net? And if you come to the net it can be as terrible as a dropshot from the baseline over and over.
I mean they are common but hard to pull of in real. You agree on that right???

Ya, I played a guy who basically Served and drop volleyed every point, and reflexed the winner. I was like WTF!

Yeah this is also a bit directed at the new members.

EDIT: Actually also some members who are playing for a while now also in TS3.

I don't think drop volleys are as cheesy as drop shots, even if it is common in real life. I find that some shots are good to do a drop volley on and some are not.

I have noticed the constant drop shots. Has anyone noticed the fact that 90% of everyone online returns serve the same way on every single point. Its like a high cross court block bunt sorta shot and it always lands deep in the corner. Its so boring.
