I am an all-around TI MD player with 3-9-8
My only strength used to be my forehand which was 88. After the patch, my forehand is down to 79 and my backhand is 61(previously 68 ).
I am currently ranked 7th all-time on WT, and 2nd in north america without abusing power or spin serves - but I don't think those credentials matter on this forum
I will probably be the first TI/MD player to say that
I LOVE THIS PATCH! I was previously pounded left and right by good power-abusing hitters(I dealt with a good majority of them but against top 10 it gets difficult).
I can now set up long rallies which works to my advantage as a TI/MD player. The best advice I can give to anyone struggling adapting to the new patch is keep the opponent deep by hitting the ball to the deep middle. If you even TRY to play short angles all the time on this patch, you are going to get absolutely crushed by someone who knows better.
Keep hitting to the middle to make him back up, and as soon as he hits a weak short shot, you take his weak shot and put it away in your back pocket and walk the funk out of there like a god damn boss.
The advantage of playing the ball in the middle is oft overlooked in my experiences against good players. Playing the middle eliminates the opponent's ability to continuously wrong-foot you on a short cross-court. Of course, there are many counters to many strategies - but if I explained them all here I would have to publish this novel.
