This risc button was imo a cheesy one. If you were as good as Norberto, nobody could break your service at 90-40.
It was his style and i had no problems with it (never won against him), but with the months and years of TS3 people tried to copy him, and it became like ping pong.

In TS4 it s more important how much you understand the game of Tennis, variations and to be smart is the key to win, not press the RT/LT buttons and bomb your opponents with one stroke.

Just my opinion.

Prefer Top Spin 4

Postby lincolnshirelad » Tue, 31 May 2011 16:26

I very much prefer TS4 to TS3, im glad they got rid of the risk shot, its now much more about working the point and creating a chance for a winner rather than just lots of constant risk shots that no real tennis player would or could play.

The only issue that i think lets TS4 down is the issue of the Topspin invasion/monster defence players, its tough to beat them! Alot of people see it as a cheat??

But ive nearly broke the disk when ive lost to those players lol

We once again arrive to the point were I say: Tennis is about taking risks. Can you take risks in TS4?

How can anyone who ever played real tennis for more then 3 minutes can call risk shots unrealistic is beyond me.

Well I can...in real life you can go for risk shots on every single point you play, however even the best players in the world miss most of those shots, if not they would do it all the time. In TS3 the best players could hit every single shot as a risk shot and hardly miss any of them, that's why it's completely unrealistic.

But when playing tennis you create an opening to take the risk or u play one if u want to chance it and try dominate but TS3 alot of players played risk shots every point and that made the game unrealistic hence why they redefined it in TS4

ill still play this game...but, like djarvik said..."no risk" and tapping the button works much better in the rallies than trying to hit a power shot

That is because you were not good enough to make them miss.

I played Norberto, the ultimate risker, and every match was close and every match he ended up with TONS of errors. In fact, his winners would be just lightly over errors.

If you or anyone else who didn't play TS3 enough, grabs a control and goes against Norberto or any other player who plays it "on a professional" level, then yeah...sure it seems like he never misses. But that same as you picking up a racket and playing against Federer.... guess what, you would get blown off the court without him missing much.

You create an opening by using risk, not risk into an open court.

In real tennis you either risk, or you push. On a professional level (which was ITST) you cannot win by pushing. You need to take risks.

There was a lot of things wrong with TS3 - risk was not one of them.

I agree about the risk aspect. You either have to have a risk button(like TS3) or have every shot come with some sort of risk(TS4 should do this, but doesn't). Risk is part of tennis. A very big part. You can either take a risk by hitting it to one side of the court, or deeper, or shorter, or approach the net, or fall back, because if you didn't take a risk all your shots would be landing in the middle of the court about service box length...

That is the only thing I put TS3 above TS4 in, though. The risk aspect. I prefer the movement, animation and the control I feel I get when hitting shots in TS4(in TS3 online I felt like I had no control over the shots. I think it was the game style(hold to pull back etc)) though I feel the control is due to the shot making mechanism - tap for control or hold for power.

But I just take TS4 and have fun with it. I gave up TS3 because I played it as a game, rather than taking it seriously - its why I gave up after a while. I ended up losing a lot.
But I like rallies. That is my favourite part of the game, even in TS3. I always had rallies(unless in TS3 i came up against a monster and couldnt do anything so I would just throw away the match). It was part of my gamestyle.

Really? I quite like it. :? Though I find it works better if you hold the shot button before they serve. Otherwise if its a fast serve your player won't react fast enough(unless he has a decently high reflex stat)

EDIT: The only thing they should really change on serve is allowing you to hammer a slow serve back, rather than tapping it back at the same pace it came to you. That is my only problem with it.

I can give you a two page list of things that are wrong with TS3

If TS4 had risk - it would be rather perfect. I like TS4, but it just feels like glorified pong without risk, like you are closed in a box and the only way to score is to hit a winner.

Winner are fun, sure..... but that is literally less then half of tennis points in real life. So we are getting half a game basically.
