I'm starting to think the burial-at-sea was a bad idea. How much better would it have been to put him in a glass case wearing a Captain America outfit in the middle of Times Square or better yet, 'Ground Zero'.

Well for what it's worth there was something purporting to be a photo of dead Osama's face on the 'Death of Osama Bin Laden' Wikipedia article yesterday. It's not there today.

It definitely looked real though...he definitely looked dead and it for sure looked a hell of a lot like OBL.

edit: here's a link to the same picture. I know I know there's no pictures of his dental records or a DNA strand or some flag popping out of his head saying 'HEY I'M OSAMA BIN LADEN EVERYBODY!', or anything like that, but I think it should suffice...

It has already been announced that this is a fake picture. Both the picture where the injuries where copied from and the original OBL picture are known.

I would doubt they are faking it, they could end up looking really stupid if he was to come out and say he was alive

I doubt they are faking it too.... But it is rather funny what has happened. If they have caught and killed him, why would they dump him in the sea? Years they have searched for him, now they've got him dead, lets quickly put him in the sea.

Muslim tradition requires burial within 24 hours after death. I read somewhere (can't find the article now) that no country would agree to host the burial within the timeframe given.

However, the more likely answer is that a normal burial might create some sort of shrine to him and his beliefs.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do put something out there in the near future, especially when Donald Trump starts demanding proof

that's one possible answer Sherlock - for legal confirmation of death in most countries, a couple of things are required - identification of the body by authenticated known relative/friend (who has to provide normal ID etc), and a death certificate - I can tell you for a fact...a fact that if, his wife, for example (bad example in this situation perhaps) went to claim/cash in his life-insurance in this situation, the insurance company would laugh her out the door...

Insurance Company consultant:
"Did you see the body"

Wife:
"Erm, no....but the people who killed him tell me they're 99.9% sure it was him"

"Hmmmmm....."

"No, it was tho"

"And do we have a death certificate?"

"Erm...no"

"No?"

"No"

"Look....we can't just take your word on this, sorry - in extreme situations, a body can be exhumed, identified visually, or we can use DNA in some cases - presumably we can pursue that avenue, if needs be?"

"Well, he was buried at sea.....so....."

"Why don I give you a card....and if anything changes....please give us a call - was there anything else?"

.......

Pakistan is just asking to be blown back to the Stone Age....actually scratch that, they're already basically living in the Stone Age, so I guess they're asking to be blown back to some simulation of the 'primordial ooze' period. Whatever.

God, put down your flag long enough to engage your brain Jay? Dear me man, I like and respect you, but this kind of statement does you a dis-service.

Your forebears (the first modern Americans - not the natives who were slaughtered in their countless numbers) were branded 'insurgents' and 'terrorists' by the British and French before they went on to become the founding fathers.

To bluntly label Bin Laden 'a terrorist' is to ignore the context of his actions - your whole nation is born from terrorism and raised in bloodshed, if you want to take a blunt, simplistic and nationalistic short-term view of things.

This 'crowing' and cheering about the murder of a human being honestly puts me in mind of one thing - the horrible ugly scenes that we all witnessed on the very day on September 11 2001 in some middle-eastern communities, with people cheering and celebrating the 'blow dealt to the american oppressor' - it really does. Bin Laden killed innocent people - how responsible he was for 9/11 is extremely debatable, but that he has/had innocent blood on his hands is probably not - i don't doubt that he did - but to cheer and celebrate the murder of a man, even one such as him?

The cynical 'conspiracy theorist' could make a very good case for this action having done wonders for a flagging first-term President who wants what every first term president wants more than anything else....a second term - irrespective of all that - I might have preferred that Bin Laden be taken alive and faced trial, followed by either execution or incarceration (preferable from any number of perspectives) - being that it supposedly happened the way it did though, surely a more dignified and solemn response might be better - whooping and stamping on your slain enemies remains is more the territory of the dark-ages barbarians than the most powerful nation on the planet and compels me in the direction of simply bowing my head in shame.

Murder is murder - two, or two thousand, or twenty two thousand wrongs do not make a right.

There comes a point where idealism and conspiracy becomes naivety and foolishness.

You should be careful not to cross that line!
