A nice bit of spin

Postby njgjoker » Mon, 18 Apr 2011 16:39

Hey guys i've discovered an excellent way to counter the monster servers. Assuming that you have guessed the right direction in which the serve is heading, i found it very helpful to return with a 'perfect' topspin shot using very little power since the pace of the serve helps to push the topspin return very deep into the court resulting in the server to hit a very off balanced weak shot. I've lost count of the amount of times that using this technique has put me in control of the rallies and left some nice easy put-away forehands. The best part is that quite a few of the people who served at ridiculous speeds didn't know how to react and seemed to have no plan B. Of course it all depends on the quality of the opponent, but on the whole most of the cheesy servers would either forfeit or lose connection on me out of frustration. LOL!!

that's the problem, i can hardly hit a "perfect" shot while returning
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

yea i have been using this return also it helps you start the rally on netural terms as the server has to retreat behind the baseline to play the return but it is not always easy the trick is once you know where the serve is going you need to prepare you swing early to time it perfect so that you hit the ball after the bounce with the ball near your player's racket out in front of him to get perfect timing

@ NJGjoker - I absolutely agree with everything you said. Control topspin type returns are an excellent way of deflecting the bigger serves. Like you said because they are almost too busy watching their own serves the change of pace really throws the opponent. Deep returns to the corner especially work well. I played Noberto who whilst only 66 serve he has 87 power and can place the ball so well on the lines. The above strategy worked like a dream
