Slice serves?

Postby edlglide » Tue, 12 Apr 2011 08:33

Has anyone else noticed some kind of weird bug with slice serves when playing online?

I was just playing against Nadal, and the guy hit slice serves every time -- for some reason I couldn't return them 90% of the time. I don't mean I was hitting weak returns; I mean my player would literally just stand and do nothing and watch the ball go past him. And I've noticed it happening a lot with slice serves while playing online; it's just that most people don't use them very often. I will be in position, hit the button to return the serve, and my player just stands there stupidly and does nothing. He hit like 20 aces and they were all because I could not get my player to return the serve. It was insanely frustrating.

Usually for me the reason this happens is because I need to move toward where the ball is going. Sometimes I catch myself switching to the direction I want to hit the ball (for example, cross court) before my player starts moving. You need to hold the movement direction until you are sure your player is moving, then switch to the shot direction.

Practice exaggerating this waiting and you should have no more problems.

This happens to me all the time too when trying to return a slice serve. My player stutters and moves in the wrong direction so my opponent gets an easy ace. It is very annoying.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about with this -- I've had that happen before too, especially when guys are hitting flat serves most of the time and then mix in a slice. I still think that's a problem, because nobody is going to get aced by a slice serve in real life unless it spins way off the court....but it's not what I was referring to.

He was hitting slice serves 95% time, so I had the timing down. He also hit them to the same spot every time, so I was in the right position as well. My player simply would not hit a return....he didn't even attempt one. Just stood there and watched the ball go by.
