Need help with gaining control of the game

So I have an issue with plays that force my player off the court.
This is of course an ideal situation for the opponent, so I am just barraged with these plays and I lose all control of the game.

I've tried using the Control Shots, but even with perfect hits, I don't seem to gain much control back.

Can anyone tell me how to regain the court?

Not only control shots, but the key is control shots deep AND not with very much angle on them. Then back up right away almost to the bottom of the screen. It's really the only way I can get back into the point because of the split-step bug and the super wide angles players are able to get.

Can you tell me how to do that?
I push up and to the right/left with the thumbstick, is that how you do it?
