I'm tired of losing to noobs

Postby JJ_DUBZ_87 » Sat, 26 Mar 2011 21:23

I'm not the best TS4 player... but I know for a fact that these guys who stack their player with offensive baseline skills are NOT better than me.

I'm trying to be considerate and not make a power baseliner and take him/her to the top of the rankings, but I'm tired of losing.

I want to win, and although my records are fair with my all-around guys and with my defensive baseline players, the power seems to always be winning. The huge serves and dominating groundstrokes that (and I'm not just saying this, other GOOD players on the ITST have said the same thing) take advantage of the loopholes in the game that are rapidly surfacing.

SO...what is a guy to do? Granted the opponent is thinking "heck yeah that was awesome" but really? I don't think so. A dude with 96 power and a 95 serve and you think you're something special? Please...

What do you guys think? I'm honestly thinking that all-around isn't gonna cut it for me anymore, I need to focus on dominating from the baseline, or building a SOLID defense. Open for input and opinions.

You`re probably thinking the right thing. Haven`t played that much online yet, but a strong defensive player with speed and good reactions and traits like return serve counter/shot counter should help you. Oh, and returning serves with slices seems effective against strong offensive players.

No one currently playing is a noob. This is some of the deepest toughest competition i've ever experienced. The game in my opinion is balanced. I win a fair share but against scat(somebody) I realize i'm just not on his level. I have yet to lose to someone whom I felt didnt deserve the win. Each match jas been fair. It's just a tough game. Keep trying dubz, my all around and defense guys have been competitive. Just keep trying. :D [/i]

I stopped playing online. 3 games is just too short.
I'll play here and off line with the game on hard and very hard.

Actually, I'd say everyone is a noob. How long has the game been out? Two weeks? In another two weeks, everyone will still be a noob.

no you dnt need to change ur style just make certain ajustments look for example federer has a great record against hard hitters why ? greet foot speed and reflexes allowed to react better to incoming pace so trust when i tell that 70+ speed and reflexes plus good level on groundies can counter this i beat an offensive baseliner with 45 in power no now the power was not 96 but still significantly higher than mine yet my ability to move my opponent around short slices. short angles, using your speed you can outmanuver you opponents so still an all rounder but with high speed and relexes. the power guysare beatable, though if some could create a djoko i.e good power, speed, and reflexes then that would a nightmare to play especially if you have low power

I've created a number of characters to represent the different types of players because in my opinion the game is balanced well, you just have to use strategy. There has been a number of times that I have lost the first set to a player similar to what you describe only to come back and win in three with a change in my approach. I also agree that three games is too short due to what I just said. When picking who to play with, I tend to play with my all around guy over my ob and db players.

I appreciate the input guys... lol and Rob you do have a point...we all are noobs at this point lol.

I also agree that 3 games is much too short. One break of serve early and it's cake from there. I'm still gonna play the WT just for kicks though.

Smokey that's a good point too... I'm really trying to find my player's strengths and use them against my opponent... or even exploit their weaknesses (like a power baseliner's slower speed). Positioning I find plays a large role, so I'm looking at that as well.

CStennis thanks for your input too. I'm gonna keep plugging along with my all-around players. Like Rob said, I'm still a noob to TS4...

For some reason I feel like this is indirectly targeted towards myself, a new player to ITST who plays Andy Roddick. I've been playing ARod exclusively since TS2, and can't possibly fathom how anyone can call a character like him "cheap", or "exploitative". He has 90+ serve and power, but his strokes, speed, reaction time, stamina are all so average its a joke!

He hits some aces against you? Things go downhill really fast against him? One break and you probably lost the set? Welcome to ARod in real life tennis. I like how he was built in this game, I feel like the amount of work I put into the rally directly impacts my results, no freebie random short angles or on the run winners. Not a complaint, just a fact.

Learn to do what irl roddick opponents do and guess a side before he serves. Don't think you can react if he's serving well. No one can.

Rubbish.
It's in the game, it's allowed. Deal with it.

Providing you're level 20 yourself, you are fully able to beat a level 20 offensive baseliner.

Thats why i'll never join ITST

I understand how irritating it is to play with them and it's really kinda boring.

However, so far, after 300 matches, I would say it is not THAT hard to win the match (it's very hard to break them though). Usually these players do not defend well and you should be able to win all points that you serve. It means you just need 1-2 correct guess during tie-break and the match is yours.

Still, it is boring.

That's a dumb reason not to join ITST... come on man you can come up with something better than that. And that point isn't 100% true because there's loopholes in the game that players exploit to win cheap points.

And KDZaster this isn't targeted directly to you. I just feel there should be some more variation with his serving stats because even in real life tennis Roddick doesn't ace as many times on a consistent basis as the game Roddick does. Granted the game is trying to simulate him playing at his best maybe, but even in rallies in real life he doesn't hit as hard as he does in the game. His power stat should have been more of a high 80's with more stat points on his forehand.

On top of that, half the time guessing a side doesn't work because of the lag and suckiness of player response in the game. If I'm pressing the analog stick to the left or right, my player should be inching in that direction and he doesn't. At the moment though I'm looking at how Moralspin returns because he hardly gets aced against big servers.

There's more for all of us to learn but it's not that easy to simply "exploit his weaknesses" like all these dudes are saying. Even the TOP ITST players at times find it difficult to create the shots to put a faux-power hitter like Roddick on the defensive, AND defensive baseliners with their speed and high reflexes are having little success because of the lag in player responsiveness so even with 95 speed your guy gets pushed off court and can't recover because he's standing there like a virgin at a strip club ().

The game needs improvements in that aspect and once they fix that I honestly think the amounts of aces we see from Roddick players or players with the super-high power serve combo set will GREATLY decrease. At this point it's not realistic to me.

I dont think thats a fair assumption to make. The only way you can win EVERY point on your own serve against a capable power baseline player is if you're just that much better than they are.

Teaching someone how to beat the lowest common denominator won't help them get better.

Also about Roddick, the guy was top 10 for 8 years in a row. The only other person who's been in the top 10 with him for the last 8 years was Federer.

He's got outstanding power, and he's hit some insanely hard groundstrokes IRL regularly too. And just like in IRL, the character has trouble getting power on really good shots that push him from side to side. But if you let a ball sit up, or come down the middle on a bad return / stroke, he will kill it.

He has one of the highest first shot winner percentages after service in tennis, ever. Most people don't know diddly about Roddick, he plays in this game like he does IRL.

That's not a surprising stat tbh... look at his serve! Of course he's gonna have the highest first shot winner percentage. And from what I've seen from Roddick, his ground game is attackable. In the past maybe he was hitting harder, but recently? No way. He's a great player though, top ten and all... that doesn't come easy, but as far as the game is concerned? He's got too much ground power.

That's just my opinion, and honestly there's nothing anybody can do to actually change the stats of a player now after the release (except 2K but they probably wont).

I'm gonna deal with it and figure out a way to win cuz that's what this game and this site is all about, but it's annoying not seeing any kind of variation in the top of the WT rankings. It's all power and serve stacked players which is what everyone hated in TS3. The only way to change that is to develop a counter style and get hella good at it, which is what I'm determined to do.

Understandably nobody likes losing... I was just frustrated is all...
