Philippoussis returning on ATP-tour

Philippoussis has received a wildcard for the qualifications at Indian Wells.

The 34-year old Australian, who was last active in 2006 at the US Open, wants to return to top level.

Philippoussis reached the final at the US Open (1998) and Wimbledon (2003) and once was ranked 8th. Due to a series of knee injuries and, according to critics, a dissolute style of living, the service canon never reached major successes.

For the last few years the 'Scud' has been playing on the Champions Tour, where he regained the pleasure in the game. "I just like the game and want to prove to myself that I still can play it."

Any thoughts? Surely he'll do better than Muster..
And if 'according to critics, a dissolute style of living' is true, than Gulbis should be warned for the competition.

Good to see a S&V-player back, especially now that Ancic retired.

If he still has even 85% of his serve he will get back to about 100-125 (remember Dent got back to the 80's). If he doesnt have that though he will have nothing. This could end badly lol.

Seriously what is he doing. He has essentially the same game as Dent, and look where Dent's return went. Maybe he's just really hurting financially.

I'm sure he has no allusions of returning to the top 10 or anything, can't blame the guy for wanting to return to the ATP...

Having said that, he hasn't been exactly dominating the geezers on the Champion tour (Yes i actually watch that crap every now and then)...he's in for a rough time.

I seen a match or two of his on the Champions tour and I thought with a serve like his, he's on the wrong tour! But other areas need serious work. Interesting tho.
Seems I can't cross that threshold just yet :(
