new stat idea?

just an idea, do you think there should be a stat under XPs for mental strength or something similar? i know its a game but in professional tennis this plays such a huge part in matches. i just thought maybe when matches get tight, or if a player makes too many errors on the bounce, this stat could have a similar effect to low stamina (slow players down, make it more difficult to hit risk shots etc.).

obviously it would also work in the opposite way too. if players hit aces or great winners, they would become looser and easier to control.

also, i forgot to mention, if the stat is lower, the player would react more aggressively after points (have bigger reactions on winning points or more frustrated when losing points) and players with a higher stat would be more impassive or quieter etc.

and now i mention it, i'd like to see player reactions included in the new game as well; you get 'ajdes' from ivanovic, vamos from rafa, shrieks from some players (kvitova and kohlschreiber are good examples) etc.

I agree to an extent with this one, though. Certain things you said like the reactions and stuff are pretty cool. I do think that there is a certain mental aspect to the game already and it lies within the player. Haven't you ever had that match where you miss a few early shots and for some reason after that everything just goes wrong? You can't time your shots or your serves, or you drop every tiebreak you get into... these are the "mental" aspect of Top Spin.

I would, however think that a drastic revisiting to the Stamina stat ought to be necessary. It doesn't have nearly enough of an effect on the game as it ought to. The best example of this is watching the morons on the World Tour, or even take the 40/90 ITST league and see how many guys are rollin' with a 90 stamina! :wink:

Your player ought to get tired less quickly than the way the current stamina system allows it, but WHEN he does it ought to really show.

This is a horrible idea, I wouldn't want my player sucking because of some MENTAL stat! I have a low mental stat myself already, don't get me double disadvantage.

I'm not sure my first post is clear, but to clarify I am against the mental stat suggestion. I do think that it would be cool to have more of a control over how your people behave, and celebrate and move and stuff... not just the swings. Sort of like how the NBA 2K player creation goes...

Agree completely. I don't want games to simulate reality THAT much, then what would be the point?

This! ^^^ :D

My personal "mental" stat working just fine, I am "mental" as it is.....no need for game stat.

I wont control over how much my player sucks mentally.
Level 13 Edberg and counting...
