Surprisingly i disagree :P. The ball is either milliseconds away from leaving Sneijder's foot or has just left his foot. Sneijder's stance when giving a through pass is very typical. In this situation he wont swing his leg through much and come in contact with the ball earlier then you might expect. Van Persie's feet are actually pretty much lined up with the defenders feet. There isnt a camera angle in the world that can change that. Van Persie is too close to the defender for the camera position to scew up the relative positions of the players.

The next image i can capture is the offical offside replay. There the ball is on the same height as the uruguayan defender running in towards Sneijder and thus gives an incorrect capture of the moment.

It's sad that so many soccer games seem to feature plays/calls like this. It seems kinda impossible to know who really won fair-and-square :?

its definitifly hard to decide .
in the replay, what i saw ,van persie was close in offside .
but that is what i like in real life- to discuss such decisions

slicer i think your pic is made little to early .
you must stopp the pic ,when snijder is touching the ball.
on your pic he is short before touching the ball .

and the defender from URUGUAY goes one step out that moment .
-and with that you saw how van persie irritated the keeper ,standing in offside. for me it was offside .
however the goal had counted

like i said ,a very close decision

Goals are so scare in football, anything that close has to count.

you know , here in football count only the referee . with a factual decision
he make the decision without any electronic help.
the goal had counted ! thats all what is counting !

all what comes behind his decision ....that is discuss.
to discuss about :""was the decision right or not ?was it offside or not? ""
thats also football .
very traditional
in europe we like to discuss at monday about the football matches from weekend . esspecially to discuss about close decisions

BTW: it was offside :)

You guys are blind :P. I cant make a better screenshot. Internet clips of the match are bad quality. So the next screen is when they stop the replay to draw the line across the pitch. And that moment van persie is offside but the ball has already traveled some length. So the moment between those 2 screens is the moment the ball is kicked.

I think van persie is in line with the defender at that moment. Anyways, i have the most important person behind me and thats the referee :P.

I'm not sure if this helps any, only to say that it looks kind of informative.

In my opinion it's offside, but honestly only a machine would have seen it, so nothing to say against the lineman, notice that the right leg (foot) is in wrong position

BTW as a reminder: only a player’s head, body and feet are taken into consideration. The position of a player’s arms does not count.

If that 3D graphic reflects the reality then i change my opinion and it's not offside

yeah true. every part from body where you can hit a goal counts !!
as example a hand doesn´t count but a single knee is counting for offside

What about this clear foul, red card foul IMO, in the lead up to the first goal.?

Unfortunately this is football... Too many injustices. It is how it has always been historically, fouls unpunished (or punished when there wasn't a foul), offside decision mistakes etc. Some injustices are vital and simply ruins the match..

Like GOA said, it is the part of football that gets us all talking
