I really miss him in his prime. That knee problem has him out of the top 100 and he lost today first round against someone he would've easily beaten in his prime. He is my favorite player to play on Top Spin and I model my ITST player after him. I hope hard courts will treat him better in the future.

I'm a huge Blake fan but the guy is too damn stubborn. His game would have reached even greater heights if he had abandoned his "grip-it and rip-it" mentality.

Blake is the man! Love watching Him play but I agree with Cro he would have been so much better if had tones his game down and used his speed as more of a weapon

Not only he is a 23 , he also got destroyed in Derlay Beach by Blake earlier this year.

I think knowing Blake and the fact that the guy was a top 10 resident for some time, while Hasse never got higher then 56 and spend there literally few weeks, speding most of his career outside top 150.....

...I say its a fair assesment that Blake was the favorite to win.

Dont you think?

This clip from the match against Haase is typical of Blake:

He just seems to lose focus so easily sometimes...

I wouldnt be surprised if blake retires at the end of the year. Im not sure how old he is, but while some players get better in thier late 20's early 30's (eg davydenko) blake defientely will not.

Is this the same Shriver who at last year's USO rudely dismissed Wickmayer as a viable challenge to Wozniacki and got rightly booed by the crowd. That was a seperate incident, but anyway......
she just appears to be an annoying loudmouth biatch.

Regarding this incident, yeah I can understand Blake's frustration.
Shriver should have definately lowered her voice once the player had complained that she was audible.
Blake may have somewhat overreacted, but Shriver did step over the line when she continued to talk despite having already been told to stop talking in the middle of a point.

Shriver is friends with Navratilova right? The pair of them both love the sound of their own voices and are full of self-importance. She should have been ejected!

Shriver = Good player/horrible announcer - thinks she knows more (about everything) than she does.
Navratilova = Great player/horrible announcer. As Fedfan mentioned, loves the sound of her own (very annoying) voice.

Both fact are put a bit unfair. He picked up a knee injury after he reached position 56. I believe it was misdiagnosed at first meaning they tried non-surgical solutions which didnt work. He finally underwent knee surgery early 2009 and was out for 10 months. Hence is why his ranking dropped so severely.

He began with playing challengers and since this year improved his ranking so he can again play the bigger tournaments. Delray Beach only was his third match versus a solid player (first de Bakker and secondly Berdych). At this point he was still unsure about how much load he could put on his knee.

Seeing Blake's recent results and the way Haase played versus Almagro in Roland Garros i would have bet on Haase always.

Not that im a big fan of Haase. He seems a bit sluggish on court. De Bakker is surely the better talent of the 2 Dutchies.

You and Adman are being bias.

He hit number 56 in April 08 and didn't have the surgery August 09 (he was out only for 2 month, not a serious surgery).

His decline happened prior to his injury and/or surgery.

Lets face it, he is not even a half a player De Bakker is, let alone Blake. :P

Granted Blake is on his way out. But still on paper, and I am sure with 99% of bookies out there, Blake was the favorite.

All he has got to show for this year (and last year) is 1 good effort against Almagro.

Sorry, not buying it.

When it comes to profesional sport, there is no such thing as a 'not serious surgery', especially when you are young and improving

How many knee surgeries did you have?

I had 3.

There are different injuries and surgeries. Some of them serious and career threatening...some are much less so.
