nono, it mouch tougher than rugby some tackles in aussy football are considered penalties or worse in rugby.

Anyway, its a traditional new zealand dance. In the past it was used to intimidate enemies on the battlefield. Nowadays its used as pre-match ritual in rugby matches.

At the risk of looking like a complete rugby moron, another question: Does any other team - besides New Zealand - employ this pre-match dance. If it's only New Zealand, do they do it before every match - or just before important (championship) matches?

Just to be sure we're taking here of Rugby Union and not Rugby League,

Anyway, Tonga has a pre-match 'war' dance, as does Samoa and also Fiji. So besides those and the All Blacks, I don't think any other rugby playing nation follows this type of pre-match ritual.
These war dances are performed at the 'Test Match' level.

Cro, if you're trying to gain some interest in rugby, it's really a great sport. Amongst the premier test playing nations- it's all action and terrific entertainment.
IMO, for sheer physicality and pure action, your American Football or whatever it's called, just does not compare.

Lookout for matches involving the southern hemisphere teams. Matches between South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are almost always of high quality.
Northern hemisphere teams like France, Ireland, Wales and England, are also pretty good. The French are especially known for innovative extreme running rugby with great flair and enterprise.

Besides the test matches, you might also be interested in competitions like the 'Super 14'
That tournament involves domestic teams of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. And in a year or two Argentina will also join this tournament.
The 'Super 14' for this season has almost ended, just the final left to be played this coming Saturday between the Bulls and the Stormers. Look out for that one, it should be a really great game.

I've seen some of those huge creatures.
But rugby players, especially those in the front row of the scrum, are also huge physical specimens.
Have a read on guys like Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha and Pierre Spies. These are 7 foot plus giants, (and especially Spies)- with the mobility of sprint athletes in track and field.

most impressing for me in rugby is, that they play without protective clothing -
i like, that in rugby, are more crazy tacklings allowed- real sick tackles and a sick game at all .
i will hold open my eyes for watching some rugby matches in future .

sorry to say, but this "rugby" in no way compares to NFL football---sorry if i offend but this rugby looks like the guys back in the 30's smoking cigarettes on the sidelines even quarterbacks in the NFL are huge....like 6'2 to 6'5 and if you are a quarterback that weighs under 225lbs you will be smashed like a tomato....still rugby looks kinda cool....but NFL players are on another level of "physical specimen"

i will not start a controverse between RUGBY and AMERICAN FOOTBALL -
both are hard sports for animals (mean animal in a good way !!)
but to play without protection clothes RUGBY looks for me much harder than American football (just my opinion)

i know i know.....but....cmon man i would be scared to play either sport...but if a 270lb linebacker from NFL can run faster than i can that is just crazy....these linebackers run like 4.4 40meter dashes...absolutely crazy stuff

You're right, GOA, to play with hardly any protective gear makes rugby an extremely physical and hard sport.
The guys in the States that comment on their version of stop-start-stop start-stop-start-stop-start-stop-start etc etc etc etc whilst wearing a ton of protective padding plus helmets that wouldn't be out of place in a hell's angels bike gang, have no idea of the sheer physicality of rugby.
Rugby players are fitter because they have to be. There's no time-out crap in this sport. You play a full 80 minutes at full capacity. Please don't tell me NFL has that type of all out almost non stop gameplay.
No sir, no comparison to be made here. Let's move along.
