This week's "Monday Obscure Movie Recommendation"®©TM...

Saw this movie mostly because Grosse Pointe is only a few miles from my house. Loved it. In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted Grosse Pointe Blank the 21st greatest comedy film of all time. So there you go.

The movie made 28 million at the box office, so yeah, it may not even be obscure. Gonna have to dig deeper next week. :)

Good tip Cro. Just seen it and its a very good comedy. Good roles from Cusack and Akroyd.

How can a Martin Scorsese film starring Robert De Niro be considered obscure? Because it totally bombed at the box office. Released in 1982, it grossed a not-so-grand total of $2,536,242 (a days work for De Niro). Regardless, the film is a must-see. Pure genius.

Even though no one saw the movie, it was included on the following lists:

• 1001 Movies You Must See Before you Die.
• Jonathan Rosenbaum: 1000 Essential Films.
• The New York Times Guide to the Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made.
• Total Film Presents The 100 Greatest Movies Of All Time (No. 85).
• Empire's list of 500 greatest films (No. 87).

My 2 kind-of-obscure movies for the week are two badass Westerns.

'The Outlaw Josey Wales' (1976) starring Clint Eastwood. I'll paste the description from Wikipedia because I am lazy right now:

'Clint Eastwood portrays Josey Wales, a peaceful Missouri farmer, who is driven to revenge by the brutal rape and murder of his wife and family by a band of pro-Union Jayhawkers—Senator James H. Lane's Redlegs from Kansas.'

That's pretty much all you need to know. Much badassery ensues.

The 2nd movie is 'Jeremiah Johnson' (1972) starring Robert Redford. Again I will paste the Wikipedia plot summary (or at least the 1st sentence of it): 'A jaded veteran of the Mexican War (1846-48), Jeremiah Johnson seeks solace and refuge in the West. He aims to take up the life of a mountain man, supporting himself in the Rocky Mountains as a trapper.'

If you don't mind very little dialogue and a lack of explosions/tits, it's an awesome movie.

I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas, sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.

Yeah that was a great movie with Eastwood. :tu

You a big fan of westerns, jayl0ve?
They're my favorite genre of movies to watch.

I LOOOOVE '...Josey Wales'...I think the best scene has to be when he annihilates that entire Union division with a gatling gun, from a covered wagon :c He leaves dead fools everywhere he goes, and spits on their corpses. Awesome sh*t

I definitely love westerns...not my very favorite genre but I love westerns.
