As I've quickly found out, there isn't much of a market around here for "walk-through" type practices.

So, that means I just have to jump right in.

Presuming one, that I basically suck right now, and two, that my ability to adapt is above average, should I start off in the regular tour, or the Sim? It will be a challenger either way.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to learning the hard way from most of you in the coming weeks.

Depends what are you looking for in TS3.

If you are a tennis fan and looking for the most realistic tennis experience possible in TS3, then SIM tour is for you.

If you are more of a "gamer" then 40-90 tour is the place.

Both tours are fun in their own way and most importantly - different.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I am definitely a tennis fan. I still like to watch replays when the point went deep or was just exciting, even if I lost it haha.

That said though, what do you mean by "gamer"? Aside from TS3, I'm fairly good at every game I own. I guess in one regard that would qualify me as a "gamer", but I doubt that is what you mean.

Well, I think 40-90 is far from tennis as a sport. It can be fun, but....unrealistic. It can also be extremely frustrating as you will run into people using 4x90 stats...usually on most important attributes. You can run in to 6,9 300lbs giants with 90 speed, almost always you will have to play tie breaks, most times if players equally matched, breaking is near impossible and one of the players will have to make a few extra double triggered returns to win the match in the tie break...making the game-play very "unique"....making TS3 more "arcade".
The play styles and players in 40-90 are very similar, very little variety. You will have to have 90 in power as 99% do and having anything less will put you in a disadvantage.

That said, it is still a fun tour and has its own following.

i dissagree here .
first ,both variante bring fun . can bring fun .....
also i think, when most use a similar setup means not that all play the same style .
also that not means that every player have automaticly the same skill only by using similar setup.
so its far away to be boring.

mean sim is also unrealistic in relation to real tennis.
only the stats are reduced to player with handicaps .

as a beginner i say play first REGULAR 90-40 TPUR . and when your skill is good enough to hold matches open - than you can start simtour !!
SIM IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO PLAY AS REGULAR TOUR !
with all this reduced stats .

ALSO i play videogames to have fun and itst to have a fair competition .
i really disagree when you say regular is no real tennis - and SIM is real TENNIS !!

its a tennisgame -so we play tennis in both tours .
in different ways ???? YES , a little different - but in both tours you play tennis not VOLLEYBALL ! LOL

First, I never said that 40-90 is not fun. Both tours are fun. Just different.

Second, I never said SIM is THE REAL TENNIS. I said SIM is closer, more realistic then 40-90.

Third, I never said "the same style", I said similar.

I think you misunderstood me.

We all have our ideas of fun in TS3. I enjoy both tours, but I consider SIM to be much more competitive, a thinking man tour, while 40-90 is simply an execution of a few money plays. You simply can't play certain "plays", shots in 40-90 like you can in SIM.

to each his own.

Anyways yeah if you're a tennis fan . The sim tour is deeper.

I know some people prefer the 40-90 and that's cool. But if you are a tennis fan the sim tour will be it for you . Even like Goa stated ,it's harder.

Jump right in is the way Redskins. You will face some strong players, and you will improve! Don't forget, these guys are the best of the best so stick at it. Even the lower ranked players are going to play at high standard.

Most people will be happy help you, so feel free to ask questions. I'd say try both tours, both equally competitive and different.

Welcome to ITST :tu
