I don't think Ali is thought to be the GOAT by all boxing fans - although I think he is. Some will say Tyson.

But I think there are a few things about tennis that make it different:

The equipment has changed so much since many of the greats played.
The whole 'Pre-open Era'/'Open Era' thing.
And lets face it, until fairly recent history, tennis players just weren't on the same level as athletes in other sports.

yeah choosing a tennis goat is much more difficult, and especially if we are considering the goat an active player, and comparing him against a legend retired player...

maybe it will be easier to analyze feds carrer, and compare him to sampras which we shouldnt, once he retires and not while hes active

I think we should just consider the players from each era and call it quits. It is like comparing apples and oranges. Yea . . . we get that they are fruits (as in both eras involve tennis players); yet, there is no point of trying to compare the two different fruits (two different eras).

I think Federer and Sampras would both be offended that you called them fruits.

Did not think that way Rob. Hum. Sorry, I guess.

Actually, I said tennis players . . . which . . . unfortunately involve them and every one else from the past to present. :D

I carry the goat around at all times, just to prove to naysayers that there is in fact a tennis GOAT.

I say TYSON by a longshot!!! He fell from the top pretty damn hard, but when he was up there, I don't think there is a boxer alive or dead who could hang with him. Too much power, too much ferocity, and way too much anger. I love watching the guy's old fights; he was a serious spectacle back in the day

I discuss of this a very few days ago with a Boxe French journalist...He saw A LOT OF Boxing...And A LOT OF BIG CHAMPS!!! (he even realised some doc about some of thos champs like Tyson,Frasier,Ali,Foreman,...)...
I was thinking ALI was the Greatest!...Then i asked him "Man to you...Who is,was and will stay in History as the Greatest?.."
He thought a bit and answered me,shortly : Tyson...For every reason Jaylove just gave here...
Now i do believe Tyson has been the Greatest Of All Time!...We won't see another Champ like him...He was BOXE!
THE N°1 HeavyWeight Champs of Boxing History...

Yep, to me he was just the PERFECT boxer. I get goosebumps thinking about him fighting in his prime...total agression and no fear, and, quite frankly, non-human punching power. Most of his fights were won before he even put the gloves on, every other guy was just scared to death to fight him

I actually feel very bad for Tyson and the way his life has turned out, it honestly makes me sad. He has been through a lot of B.S and just recently his daughter died
