New tennis game?

Postby L Sanchez MD » Wed, 04 Jun 2014 13:36

Is there any sign of a new tennis game coming out for PC / PS4 / Xbone?
Like maybe a Top Spin 5, Virtua Tennis 5, or Grand Slam Tennis 3?

Thankfully we have TE on the PC, but would be nice to have something on the new consoles.

To my eyes tennis is a popular sport around the world, it's not a minor sport, so I can't understand why there's no company willing to develop a good tennis video game.
EA Sports, a multimillionaire franchise who released that piece of shit called Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Tennis 2??!!, WTF!!, they do know how to make a good tennis game for God's sake!!

Another point is that it's at the very core of gaming history : Pong !

And it's versus gaming (1 vs 1, or 2vs 2), there is a mind game (a bit like chess), and in some games (TS3) you have to be skilled to do "special shots"... So it can be "e-sport-able" to my eyes... Just like a Street Fighter, a KOF, or a MvsC3...

I, also, don't understand why no company tries to give the players a great Tennis game... :??

Because tennis is difficult. To make a fun, realistic depiction, and to allow online multiplayer, it has to be coded fantastically to compensate for lag (since there is never 'no lag') as timing of the ball is hugely important. It's basically trying to find a balance between realistic physics (harder to predict when compensating for lag) or fun, hardcoded gameplay (easier to predict but more repetitive). My goal at some point is to develop a tennis game. At some point.

Just stick a HD version of TE with nice textures and animations on the consoles and be done with it :-p

I wonder if the fact that GS2 was a total flop influenced the industry. There's a big gap in the market anyway.
I also heard the studio that made TS4 closed down?

How much are you willing to pay me? You'll need to cover the costs of living, developing, testing the game, hosting the servers and website and console development kits. :P

One year later BUMP post :-p

Still no murmurs / rumours on the horizon?

Did EA really stick the nail in the coffin with that GST2?

patiently waiting

We talked about it in the past, licenses are the problem. In tennis you need to negociate individually the licenses (with every player and every tournament), and we always end with tennis games with 8 pro players...meanwhile in football, soccer, basket you have complete roster for less money.
That makes really expensive for companies to develope the tennis games, plus they are not so popular among the gamers so....no profits-no investment.
The same applies to golf games

God i'd love a new tennis game. Kind of ridiculous there isn't one 3 years into the console cycle.
