Its really crazy. I wouldnt be surprised if the new Xbox will have a similar system. It is already rumoured that you will need a internet connection to be able to play games on the new Xbox.

Yeah I heard the rumours about the Box too. Looking forward to pay 70 Euro for a game with an effective resale value of 0,00. Not.

Really, it shouldnt be so hard to implement a system where you can transfer your game from your profile to the profile of the buyer when you sell your game.

The same rumours appeared b4 the ps3 was sold. Sony know they lose money if you can't buy/sell pre owned games.

Don't see how Tam.

In my opinion, both consoles are headed and WILL get there. Say goodbye to used games and hello to subscription based gaming. If I were in their place - that is exactly what I would be gunning for. The key is to make a transition as a team, both consoles at once.

Yeah both will make a deal. I always thought ps4 would be discless.

The reason I say they will lose money. I mean they wont make as much money.

People would be less inclined to buy games knowing that there is no re-sale value. Do sony even make money from a game that has been sold?

It would also mean a lot less ppl would buy a ps4. Knowing that after spending 50-70 pound on a game that they are stuck with it.

Game sales would not be as high as ppl would want 2 be sure b4 buying.
I personally would not buy a game If I was not a 100% sure that I would enjoy especially as PS4 will be extremely expensive.

Would you pay say 5 dollars a month for a game? Say you have a dozen games. 60 bucks a month

You are trying to fit two totally different sets of puzzles together. Wont work.

The move to such platform will encompass a major price cuts, marketing, game contracts with manufactures, new game releases of most favorite franchises locked into subscription. Among tons of things that I can come up with. And I am not in that industry, I am sure they have more insight...

This is a totally different ball game. Go to market strategy is key and judging by the fact that Sony and Microsoft are rather successful companies in gaming industry - we will all buy into their marking. Hell, I am ready now! Give me Top Spin 5 and I will buy such console without giving it a second thought!

If and when it becomes a disc less industry and evrything is bought through ps store or the devil box version of ps store.
It will become cheaper as production costs are cut. As you say Microsoft and sony are better at this than you or I. With that in mind they can still take us for evry single spare cent we have.

When the next gen consoles come out i feel for ppl who dont make a lot of money. Subscription costs would force a lot of people away.

I highly doubt the cost of a big release game will ever fall. This is excluding indie games, xbl games, etc. Even if this no second hand thing is implemented, it's up to the publishers and not the hardware manufacturers to price their games. Of course, there's a cartel sort of arrangement where everyone ends up with the same price, but there's no way the big pubs are going to drop prices on AAA titles. Ever.
People were saying the same thing a few years ago when the online stores started getting traction. XBArcade, PSN, Steam, etc.
"cut out the middleman, savings for everyone, more profits to the devs, woohoo!!" 2 out of 3 aint bad I guess.
There's been no drop in cost whatsoever, and most games are still higher priced on the online store than if you were to go to a retailer. That said, I've bought quite a few games over XBL that I don't regret purchasing for a higher price. It's the convenience factor that makes it worthwhile.

Also, I can't really wrap my head around how this whole no-used-game thing will work. Is it like the game will only work on 1 system? One profile? What if I want to take a game to a friends house? I see a lot of problems implementing this kind of restriction.

The game will be tied to your account. So theoretically the game could work on another console if you log in with your account data. Practically it won't happen because you don't want to log in on another console so taking the game to a friend is not an option. I don't know about the technical things though. Oh yeah and no option to play games offline as well.

It will also destroy the used console games market and this would drastically affect many if not all game retailers and also the big ones like Gamestop. Lost revenue = jobs go bye bye. Also no rentals.

Sony know they lose money if you can't buy/sell pre owned games.

That's what they're trying to tell you. They're not making money with used games sold of course but with official rentals. However there isn't a single damn market where resales are banned. Imagine buying a television set which is tied to your fingerprint.

I guess we'll also see rental versions of games - I can't see Blockbuster and Redbox giving those up without a fight.

Rentals may still be possible but only with specially made discs. While there's a "not for resale" label on today's official rentals, they're technically identical to standard games.

Hasta la vista Next Gen stuffs !
Gooooooood morning Retro gaming !!!

Enough is enough...
DLC day one (ME3), games sold at its max but with locked features you have to PAY to unlock (clothes, chara,...)... Features that first were unlockable BY PLAYING (in "good ol' days"...) !!!!

I now boycott any DLC... I won't never ever buy one of those...
And seeing what will be the next Sony or Microsoft consoles... I think I won't buy those new consoles...

The only weapon we have against those "habits" is our money... They won't have mine anymore... (talking about DLC and all...)
If we all do this, maybe "they" will realise this is not what video-games are supposed to be...

Capcom now talk about us as "consumers"... Before they were talking about us as "gamers"... Something went really wrong somewhere !...
Where is the time when devs were doing things with passion ?...
I'm disgusted...
