I'd probably do the same if I were in his shoes, though.
You're 100% sure out of the tournament if it goes in and 99% sure out if you did what he did.

Well said.
This is the endless debate of 'does the end justify the means'?

Was that disgraceful behavior on his part? It most certainly was.
Did his actions save Uruguay from elimination? Definately.
Put in his position would we not all do the same thing? We'd be lying if we said 'no'.

emate007 wrote:Who said cheaters never prosper? Clear case where the penalty was not strong enough for the fould commited. Sure the penalty kick should have sealed the match. But on the other hand the match should have ended 2-1 without needing a penalty kick. And a red card on the last play of regulation is meaningless.
Uruguay should have been penalized with a loss of one penalty kick attempt or something...

There are rules in other sporting codes when it comes to this type of similar situation.
In rugby, a similar type of occurrence would have been deemed a 'penalty try'.

Also just to say that what we perceive as blatant cheating might be seen elsewhere as smart and cunning behavior in cleverly exploiting the situation.
To his team mates and most probably to the whole country of Uruguay, Suarez will most likely be seen as the hero who prevented his team's elimination and gave them their first semi-final place in 40 years.
Try telling them that what he did was despicable behaviour. They'll laugh in your face.

Different cultures different attitudes.

That's soccer...I wish i had read the same comments on Henry's hand...
I'm very sad cause i think Ghana deserved it more...But that's how it goes...One day,one day, they'll use technologies, and change some rules...Just to help the referees, they are left alone nowadays, and in case of big errors, the thinking heads (Fifa,...) just let them (the ref) all alone!Really hard!

Absolutely true, he'll be seen as a national hero. Not sure it matters what country he's from... As both you and Slicer said it was an obvious choice given the circumstances, and knowing that at the very least they had a slim chance instead of no chance.

Heartbreaking for Ghana, who played a better match in the last 30 minutes.

What I meant was that perhaps some countries would be more prone to be divided on this issue, whereas others wouldn't bat an eyelid.
I'm thinking more in line with the places where soccer/football is viewed more as a religion and a way of life, rather than just as a sport.

Actually, after the free kick was taken the ball was headed further in the box. The number 10 of Ghana picked up that loose ball. At the moment of the header he was offside though. So whats fair in this situation...

SUAREZ is the hero for URUGUAY .
without his hand to save the remis ,URUGUAY is out from WC !
thats a fact .
i think every player ,from every country do this in such an important match.
is it cheating ??
at all yes !!
mean the rules are clear in such a case -and the rule is correct in my opinion.
penalty and red card is hard enough .
normally a penalty is to 90% in .
at end ,it was the fault from ghana and gyan to miss the penalty !!
no doubt about it was very unlucky for ghana to loose this match .
thats football :

holland is playing a good match against BRAZIL-esspecially in 2 halftime.

today germany is playing against argentina
argentina is one of the most unfair team in WC .
remember 2006 as they loose against germany in 1/4 final.
they start a fight after loosing in penalty shoot out .
will not mentioned "the hand of god " cheater goal WC 86
bad bad sportsmanship .
that is the way we know from argentina !
they can´t loose
hopefully this time they have little more respect when they loose today against germany !!
YES -tonight ARGENTINA can starting travelling home ,back to ARGENTINA !!

when germany can reach the final its well deserved .
our way over ENGLAND -ARGENTINA -SPAIN -AND HOLLAND will be the hardest from all teams !! .
when we are not reach the final -thats also okay .
we are not favorite -so we can play free . every win will surprise the world ,no?
in nearly 3 hours the big match against ARGENTINA is starting

GERMANY IS PLANING TO WIN THE WC-AT BEST AGAINST HOLLAND   - WATCH OUT WORLD

I would do what Henry did, no doubt, but i couldnt ruin what suarez did. Imagine now if players keep on doing this from now on knowing they wont be victimised.

When Henry did what he did Ireland went mad, people were saying to go to war with France, i remember non irish people as well as irish people saying he should be banned, possibly forever from international.
But when it happens to an African team, a country most of us have never been to it seems to be well done mater, you did your team proud?

hahaha, wow... What a result for Germany! Incredible, they're THE team to beat despite everyone saying they were weaker than usual.
