I'm not good in discussion such as these. I don't pay enough attention to the news of the world to know much about topics like this

No I'm not saying that Scotland isn't part of the UK, it just seems like you guys get offended when you group Scotland in with the UK. Or maybe that's calling Scots 'Brits', I dunno.

jayl0ve wrote:btw Tigerofintegrity I dunno if you even know what this is, but there's this candy called Starburst here in the US and their slogan is 'It's a Juicy Conradiction'. Well, one of their TV spots features a kilt-wearing, bagpipe-holding Korean man who talks with a Scottish accent, saying something like "I'm a Scotch Korean, I don't make any sense!"

you just reminded me of that. I actually found it a bit narrow-minded, cuz I'm sure there's quite a few Koreans living in Scotland....pretty harmless though :P

He's more Scottish than most Scots! It reminds me of this short film 'Yu Ming is ainm dom' (meaning My name is Yu Ming in Irish). He's a Chinese guy who decides to go to Ireland to try and make a better life. So he ends up learning Irish before setting off and then he arrives to find that most Irish people are really poor at Irish. It's kind of a dig at how the Irish language is dying out and a foreigner with no experience sort of ends up being 'more Irish' than the Irish. Good short film though. Go check it out!

Lol!!! Stand-down high-alert man : ) Sounds like you thought I was being a little serious, which I can confirm I wasn't...

You can sometimes come across as a little defensive....but perhaps that's more a result of perceived and/or real America-bashing...?!

Always enjoy our discussions irrespective of agreement-frequency, as it were ; )

That's basically it. It just seems like it's ok to make fun of us but if we do the same, we're xenophobic or even racist :? This also is basically just my opinion it's impossible to say 'Europeans make fun of Americans more than vice versa!'

It's not you guys on the forum really, it just seems like in general you guys (UK) really dislike Americans! Ask the average American 'What do you think of people from the UK' and they will probably have absolutely no opinion, good or bad, but I bet if you ask the average guy in the UK what they think of Americans the response is probably something similar to "Bloody pigs!" or something

aye, I am familiar with this situation.

The aspect of it that annoys me - I have quite a few Muslim friends - is when some them sometimes get into this nasty anti-American rhetoric, they're really criticising a particular part of some politcian's or political parties action (typically some foreign policy stuff)....but that's not what they say or talk about - rather they say things like 'bloody amercians', which is facile and ignorant - most of the American people I know and have known are really cool, thoughtful and interesting people.
