You cannot compare Federer with Sampras. I don't know enough about Sampras to say who is better, but a lot of people say that Federer can play better than he plays now!! But why should he do so if it is enough for being world's number one?!

And then again Federers got almost no competition other than Nadal, however Pete in the 90s era had so much competition that made Sampras that much more impressive keeping up the number 1 ranking for 286 weeks. Courier, Chang, Ivansievic, Muster, Brugera, Agassi, Correjta, Rafter, Safin, Stich, Becker. Who does Federer have other than Nadal?

Maybe players like Nalbandian, Nadal, Roddick, Hewitt... are good opponents but Federer is too good for them.
You cannot compare player from two different eras :!: 8)

federer is unbeatable and will stay like this for many years, so we can't ocmpare them yet but my guess is that federer will acomplish much more than sampras.

Mecir, do you really think Rogers forehand is better than Petes? I mean not just clay, but grass hard carpet indoor? Sampras forehand in 96 French Open when he reached the semis and lost to the winner Kalfenikov was something i never saw, not only had extravagant power but remarkable presicion. I dont think there is a comparison, Federers topspin on forehand is stellar but i still dont think its as good as Petes, however Federers movement is very fluent, great technique. To all the people who said Federer is too good for his opposition, what about Sampras? Sampras oppostion as b4 was the greatest, and being realstic can you imagine Goran Ivansievic in his prime would lose to Federer on Grass? I can compare the two eras because of each players gameplay, i cant imagine Federer in Sampras era. However i can imagine Sampras and co. suiting well in our generation of baseline play.

Mcfed, first watch one match of Sampras then you can compare the two players, im sure you would be stunned if you watch him play. Then perhaps you can make your own opinion on who has the better forehand, or game in that matter

Yeh. I already said that I don't know Sampras good enough, but I know that Federer's forehand is very good and when he plays the forehand inside out it means that Federer is taking controll about the point.
