Man if I was the prime minister I would be extremely pissed off people even had the nerve to do this. I would have sent in the army and tear gas and quashed this thing like the parasite it is and make a huge example of all involved, and show crime doesn't pay. When you are losing control of the streets of the capital things are desperate, which calls for extraordinary measures.16,000 police are on the streets today, in a city of about 15 million?

People are just joining in the chaos because they want to, people using bbm and twitter to invite their mates to come and join in and maybe pick up a new pair of trainers or a tv in the process.

It gets me so angry when people say it's kids getting pressured into gangs and so on. There are plenty of people that don't get in this situation aswell it's not an excuse when people choose the wrong path in life.

They are basically just terrorising the city and should be dealt with harshly.
I have lived in a tough neighbourhood for a while do i understand as well as most peeps see I was offered the chance to join the gang in my hood but i refused knowing if i did i would see the inside of of a jail cell or die young so i didnt i was picked on and ridiculed by the gang. so you see not everyone has the strength to withstand what i did and not conform because of fear of being a victim and target so they join thus not becoming a target.

Good job man!

Anyway, watching this on the news right now. Pretty scary!

These riots are pretty damn annoying. Watching the news of different outbreaks i different parts of the country reminds me of a zombie film... in this case 'the dawn of the dicks'.

The notion that it's all about that fella who got shot is absolutely ridiculous... firstly, as others said he had a loaded gun and presumably pointed it at someone, well that's what happens. But even if he was an unarmed orphan and the police tied him up, set him on fire, urinated on him then shot him between the eyes it's completely irrelevant to any of this.
If people claim to be angry about the shooting then they're angry at ONE cop. But no, the entire police force are the enemy. And what better way to hit the establishments than setting fire to fancy dress shops with people's flats above them, breaking into sandwich shops and independent newsagents and just generally wrecking honest peoples' livelihoods. Huh?
It had better not catch on in my city, it's just embarassing...

I think if the police had gone in heavy handed from the start then the press would make news by getting on their backs about it... now they've waited until the public will have absolutely no sympathy for the rioters and i expect if there's any more tomorrow then the police will go in there and pop some skulls...

It's stupid that people are using violence as a means to protest violence. :?

yeah...it is fundamentally retarded what these people are doing.

Still pretty sure that it's not near the scale of the LA riots though. Not that that matters. I'm just saying it could be worse I suppose. :?

He was 29years old, he had a loaded pistol but didn't fire at police. not trying to defend him or anything, just don't know where any of you are getting your information from.

That was a few days ago when the police said he shot first. Now it seems he was just carrying a loaded weapon and pointing it at police, not exactly a smart move.

Most of these kids haven't a clue about these things. Lots of people are having a tough time at the moment but they are not all partaking in this crap.

Sure it's a sad state of affairs when people are getting stopped and searched but it's a reaction to a lot of what has happened in inner cities with gun and knife crime. If you have nothing to hide get over it.

PC brigades again saying no cctv, random searches, DNA database etc. I don't understand it, if you follow the law why would you be bothered about it. Protecting our communities is a fundamental right for honest law abiding people who pay their taxes.

I don't buy for a second that it's anything to do with stop and searches or jobs or anything like that... i just see it as a poor attempt to attatch some shred of credibility to what they're doing. If it really was a protest thing, nobody could be so stupid as to think that wrecking small businesses (which struggle enough as it is) and torching random peoples' shops and homes is any way to make their point. Whatever they're claiming it's about, it can only be about wanting to smash burn and loot, safety in numbers.

By their logic, I've decided to go and cut my neighbour's cat's head off in protest at people tramline serving on TS4.
