With Dortmund he was rally good, allround player with no weaknesses. On other hand, he doesn't have one big strength and the Polish national squad isn't Dortmund. So let's see. I'm still impressed every time I see that he's only 23 yr old....

Eriksen didnt have a good season at all. He only showed his class sporadically. Had enough assists but was hardly ever important for the team. I would be surprised if he would be able to turn that around in such a short time.

Don't underestimate the Greece. Samaras is a strange player he can be excellent or very bad, plus in that group any 2 teams could qualify

Didn't know that about Eriksen. Just read couple of articles about him and everyone compared him with the Laudrup Brothers - and I loved these guys :)

Sure, never underestimate Greece. I mean there were Euro champion 2004. But still...they have an awful way of playing and 2004 was kind of a one-hit-wonder.

definitely. germany played horrible. no ideas, no speed, no space. they need to improve a lot. but that's exactly the way i expected them to play. they are not in a good shape and can't cope with the pressure on them of being a favorite.

Could anyone that follows the premiership tell me how the hell van Persie can score so much for Arsenal? Do all Arsenal players put on a van Persie shirt during the game?

Ive never seen a striker miss so many chances while doing so well for his club team. It was the same in 2010 really.

It's funny because, in my book, Van Persie is not a striker, he's one of the best players (wingers) in Europe, no doubt about that, but if Holland needs goals Huntelaar is the man.
And about Germany, yep the guys didn't play their best but Germany will improve, it has the right players to get to the last rounds

The same feeling persists with most of the Dutch people. But he has been playing as a striker for Arsenal for quite some seasons now. He was even topscorer in the premiership this season. I agree Huntelaar seems a garantee for goals. But its only if he is surrounded in a well playing team. Huntelaar will not be active in the build up. Van Persie will. So if you put in Huntelaar the pressure of creating chances will go to the 3 remaining offensive players. If those dont do the job Huntelaar will just be in a big void up front getting no chances at all. And only Sneijder is reaching his level at the moment.

Id prefer to take out either van Bommel or de Jong. Both are players that are better in kicking an opponents head off then they are at kicking a ball. If one of them is switched for a more attacking minded player he could support both offense and defense where needed. Our coach is hoping for the same luck as in 2010 when Sneijder and Robben where both at top form and the team was deadly during the switch from defense to offense. It will not happen.

Van Bommel is just way over his top, just play Van der Vaart there. Also, our backline is just terrible. There must be at least 8 teams, if not more, with a better defense at this EC.

I'd put Huntelaar up front, Robben left wing, Afellay/Narsingh right wing. They can reach the backline to give a nice cross for Huntelaar, whereas with Van der Vaart, Afellay/Narsingh, Sneijder and the back you've still got plenty of players that can be dangerous through the center. Keep De Jong on in midfield for some vacuum cleaning (that's what we would call it in Dutch anyway...).

I enjoyed Spain - Italy though. Good match, some top-quality passing going on. Also looking forward to England - France in a bit.

You are spot on Tom. But van Marwijk will never go for it.

Welcome back by the way. ;)
