Lots of soccer noobs in the US. Lots of obese people in the US.
Easy math, nobody in America knows anything about soccer because they're all too fat to play.

Myself, I know that soccer gets a bad rap by my fellow Americans, and that it can be a physical game played by some pretty tough guys. I enjoy watching soccer and don't really see the 'flopping' as any worse than basketball.

Arjen Robben is an exception though; that guy seriously ought to be ashamed of himself and needs to have his license to be a man taken away.

Agreed.
Even the Dutch media know how ridiculous he looks and mock him often... But they still love him, he wins games.

Also congrats from the Netherlands! I really enjoyed their matches. Except the one versus France. Was glad that one was over. :P

I read an article a few years back about the change in German football since 2000 and the role of the German football association in this. Its in Dutch so linking it aint to helpful. But the main points are:

All first and second tier teams needed their own youth academy with strict regulations on the minimum amount of youth trainers and facilities. Each age group needed to contain at least 12 German players. Added to that there were some independent youth academies founded which aimed more on technical players instead of physical players.

Seeing the amount of talented technical players coming through the ranks the last few years is really impressive. This article was especially impressed with the actions of the DFB. I am wondering if the German people think the same about this?
