John Higgins (convicted cheat) through to last 4....

lol!!! And who did he play to get there? Why none other than Stephen Maguire...another 'charged' (verdict of 'not proven' ultimately returned by Scottish courts - 'not proven' = we know you did it, we just couldn't prove it) cheat....

(Maguire link = http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/ap ... ing-police)

the mind boggles - this would be like having Maradona play, oh, off the top of my head Thierry-cheating-scum-Henry in a football one-on-one....

The whole thing is become a debacle - Barry Hearn, the head honcho these days in snooker terms has introduced new rules preventing future occurences....but....BUT here's the thing - if Higgins' case had come before the WPBSA (the snooker body - World Pool, Billiards and Snooker Association) right now, Higgins would receive a lifetime ban - as it was, he got a 7 month ban. And I'll go to my grave (no time soon hopefully) believing/knowing that Hearn had Higgins throw that match against Davis this time last year.

Irony? Debacle? I'm thinking we need some new adjectives......

On a final note - Higgins case never actually went before a tribunal, as it was supposed to - instead, he plead guilty to the lesser charge of 'bringing the game into disrepute' by not reporting the ukrainian approach. Uh huh.

I read the articles, and you're correct.

However- I still dislike snooker, and I become agitated whenever it's on eurosport instead of tennis or other real sports.

That match vs Davis was really fishy... I'm very suspicious as well.

Higgins has got off very lightly. I haven't watched him since his comeback. What's the reactions like from the spectators? Have they forgiven him etc?

Good question man, i do not know - I know when he's been asked, he's said that everyone has been brilliant (inc the ukrainians?!) - but I haven't gotten much of a flavour for audience/spectator perspective.

Don't know if you've seen 'The Colour of Money' - sequel to 'The Hustler' (one of my favourite movies of all time)?

I hate to spoil if not, but there's a scene near the end where Paul Newman, the old master, is playing Tom Cruise, the new kid on the block in competition - Newman is ahead...wins a frame/game....then realises that Cruise threw the frame. He doesn't cause a ruckus or big fuss....he just walks away from the table, unscrews his 2-piece cue, packs it away, and walks off....losing the match by default. It's such a cool cool moment.

I would have just loved loved loved Davis to do likewise during that match against Higgins - would have been the honourable thing to do, and would have shown Higgins up properly. As it is, Davis is quoted as saying it's the best victory of his career.

Hi ho.
