New User Profile Display Options

Postby Rob ITST » Thu, 11 Feb 2010 05:00

All ITST Members:

We have added some new features to your User Profile on the main ITST site. These features include:

The option to display or hide your email address, and your MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and AIM instant messenger addresses.

The purpose of this is to give you the option of how much of your personal information is available on your User Profile page. If you choose to display them, they will be available only to other members, but if you wish to further protect your information, you may now choose to hide them.

To view the status and make changes to these options, go to your Personal Page, and click Change your user profile. Near the bottom of the screen you will see this:

Check the boxes for the addresses you wish to display, un-check the boxes for the addresses you wish to hide.

If you hide it, why type it? Can certain people still see it (for example, the managers and not the members)?

You must register with an email, but now you don't have to display it.

Basically if you want to keep receiving ITST mail but not want the rest of the world to see your email address you can hide it from everyone.

I agree that inputting and then hiding things like MSN, ICQ, Yahoo and AIM is kinda pointless. Perhaps some members think its obligated or something. Just for that group they can now hide it as well.

You can also hide them on your profile, but show them on the forum.

The main point is that it gives you, the member, more control over what is and isn't shown.

Yea. I do receive spam messages on my Skype and Digsby account. You think it is because someone registered my email to websites?

Probably not. I know Skype has lots of problems with spam. I created a Skype account once and before i even told anyone or inserted it on some site i already had spam in Skype. So there is not much you can do about that. I dont know Digsby so i cant comment on that.

Okay Slice. Well, I was not taking the accounts down any time soon. So, I will deal with it. Just one important thing . . . DON'T CLICK!

Thanks for the feedback.
