Is it possible to have a "how the ranking works" and a points breakdown for the entry ranking as well? Would be nice to have that in order to make the entry ranking and the champions race as two equally worth rankings.

New ranking system

I agree with the last Elargento's post. And Master sry if I look I wanted to offend you, it wasn't my idea to offend you. I just think that we should do like the ATP in the real life, the Entry Ranking that is always accumulating points an the Race that starts from 0 every year.

New ranking system

What do you mean Rocket? That the Entry ranking should start from 0 too? But that leads us to the same, in that case, was the same that to not have an entry ranking.

P.S: Sry for the English...

decision is surely not made by such a poll here, yo? furthermore, how do you dare to judge about it?

but what about the players that played all the year and want to have a kind of reward the other year(it sucks to start all over from 0 whithout any seed advantage at the draws), i think its fair to have both rankings.

Hi

I think it would have to be started at zero fairly for the new players.

race+entry

Postby Dostoevskij » Mon, 12 Dec 2005 23:47

I personally agree with [ITST]Federer (entry+race), even if for me it will be harder to climb the ranking.

I have already supported the RACE + ENTRY early this year.
Definitely we should have champions race and entry system.
This way players who played all the 2005 season will have the challenge to defend points and the rising stars will play without any pressure...and this would be fair for both, newbies and experienced players.

Just to make things clear... The entry ranking is not about defending points. There's no system in the real ATP rankings with defending points any more. I think it used to be before the Race was introduced.

I think it's a good system to have both rankings. The Race ranking will still be the main. The entry ranking will be used only to determine seedings. It's not unfair to new users since the race ranking always starts from 0.

In the "How the ranking works" window there's a brief dsscription of the entry ranking.

That's not true. The ATP Entry system runs on a rolling 52 week system. Once points are earned, a player keeps them on his tally for exactly one year. Then points come off as the week go by because with each new tournament played, it counts as part of the rolling 52 weeks. The player with the most points over the 52 week period is number one.

For example If I played the Australian open in season 1, then went through 52 weeks and now I am at the Australian Open in season 2 again. The Australian open season 1 points would have to come off because that would make me have 53 tournaments instead of 52. This is in essence "defending points".
