List below:
Andy Murray R16 and Kei Nishikori R22 from the mens are missing
In the females only Svetlana Kuznetsova R12 is the missing player.
Which makes me think they are licenses they could not obtain

Other people have pointed it out that what's more probable is that, as it is a free promotional app for the Australian Open, they put in the names of the players that are registered to take part in the event. Coincidentally, Kuznetsova, Murray, and Nishikori have all officially retired from the tournament before the app release.

So, I don't think it gives any indication as to the final roster of the console version.

Perhaps you are correct. I guess we will have to find out on Jan 16th since it doesn't look like we are getting any new info prior to release. But if players are all using generic animations as stated previously I think it is likely we will get alot of licensed players.

I will be streaming it on Twitch on Jan 16th for anyone interested since I know it is only a Australian and New Zealand release on Jan 16th. So we can all criticise and evaluate the game together.

That article reads like a journalists getting $ kickbacks for speaking highly of the game. Doesnt sound like a neutral party at all.

source: https://www.foxsports.com.au/tennis/ao- ... 1d1eb81fc7

Here is the initial roster:
· Rafael Nadal
· David Goffin
· Kevin Anderson
· Thanasi Kokkinakis
· John Isner
· Angelique Kerber
· Karolina Pliskova
· Johanna Konta
· Daria Gavrilova
· Agnieszka Radwanska
· Sam Stosur
· Caroline Garcia

- Which makes sense why in Australia/NZ are getting it early with such a small roster: (More added later as free patches see point 3)
- Each licensed player is captured in exacting detail, both in appearance and play style; allowing for a more realistic experience. (They better have custom animations for each player then)
- Users will have the opportunity to add more players via free patches once more licensed players are put into the game. (Which is why the worldwide release is later?)
- According to developers, AO Tennis will have “the most comprehensive player creator ever seen in a tennis game,” and with full online sharing capabilities, will allow users to access hundreds of fan-made players. (I hope this doesn't make them lazy and wait for the community to make 'fake' real pro's)

This has made me much more hopeful that the game will not be a rushed mess. But instead we are the beta testers here in Oceania till the worldwide release Early 2018 - They are hinting around May.

Thoughts anyone?

What makes you think that? I have not seen anything about the game being Modabble or anything about the game play for that reason. All I am thinking is "player editor" will let you put your face on the player and control how much hair each arm has.
Level 13 Edberg and counting...

Looking at the history of the company the player creators in their previous games were very well done I expect something similar here.

In their previous game Ashes cricket animations were motion captured and placed into the game. They look terrific.

They scaled back there roster from dozens to just 12 which again makes me hopeful they have taken their time with each player making them unique.

Lastly if their previous games are any indication of their new game we can expect more of a simulation of the sport instead of a arcade game.

I guess alot of things are up in the air right now though gameplay and whether the game will able to have mods. All shall be answered very soon though as release is 6 days away here in Australia on console.

EDIT: New video showing how they captured the licensed players in game Kokkinakis is used as the example

again it looks like the video didn't want to show the gameplay which is a bit worrying

alright we have some gameplay which has been leaked......... Game looks terrible to be honest I think they should save themselves the embarrassment and just cancel the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clDuU8BbvP0 - AI vs AI Hardest Difficulty - Nadal vs Goffin

EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtxqi5qsOIY - Doubles match (Oh my this shows how terrible the game truly is)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVqL4ple-04 - Player Creator

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXH3xQXTuuU - Showing all the stadiums available to play on (There is not many)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CmTBexCUAk - Male Roster

Unless there is a massive change on a day 1 patch this game looks dead on arrival to me. I think we know why they were so scared to show gameplay.

They had experience making Cricket games. Ashes was like their 4th game in the series.

AO Tennis seems like a rushed product, Hopefully, it patched to a better standard when it releases worldwide.

Seems like another EA Grand Slam Tennis 2.....meh Simulation.

I stress the importance of animations simply because shot mechanics are what players build and improve during their career to express their own game according to their strenghts. Tennis, like every discipline, has its peculiarities and what you call stylization - like it is just some kind of aesthetic detail - makes Federer different from Wawrinka, Nadal from Verdasco and so on. Ultimately, it belongs to gameplay because it's part of the "movement physics" you mentioned above.
