Tsonga's actually kind of a shit volleyer to be quite honest...he just hits 1 or 2 specific volleys pretty well...other than that he can't create any kind of advantageous situation at the net just through the strength of his volleying, he has to come in on something pretty good.

He hits good drop volleys off high balls I guess, but honestly a lot of the 'drop volleys' he hits I think are really just kinda mistakes...he doesn't even know what's going to happen when he hits the ball on a volley, I think.

Shit BH too.

I'll post a video I took of Tsonga practising volleys at a practice court in the o2 before his Berdych match on Sat... you may change your opinion slightly.

I will :P (once I upload it)

I know what you mean though. But he did hit one RIDICULOUS volley against Federer on Sunday.

Admittedly the 2nd volley is poor, but he thought Federer had given up by then.

Anyone notice that Federer hasn't been flubbing volleys into the net recently? Not as much as usual anyway.
I even saw him get really low for a volley in the 3rd set against Tsonga. Usually he's content to just drop the racquet down there.

If you have seen the match between nadal and Tsonga, you could see that Tsonga is amazing volleyer. 27/36 i remember (NET POINTS).

Tsonga is crap, he's not even a good volleyer..... What are you on Jon ???

He has always been a good vollyer.

I agree of few of his drop volleys seem lucky (especially againt Nadal in the AO semi of 2008) but it's been three or four years now he is doing them so..... i don't really think luck is involved.

More over, no one plays at the net in ATP nowadays so it's enjoyabe to see a player going always forward

I didn't say he's crap! I like him actually, he's one of my favorite players to watch.

All I'm saying is I think he's an overrated volleyer, i.e not quite as good as people say he is. It makes me want to barf when I hear commentators go on about how he's a 'serve and volleyer'.  Please....PLEASE. YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!

His BH is undeniably shit; that doesn't preclude him from being a good player so please don't act so offended :)

gayglove is right... he IS actually a pish vollyer... seen it moreso when in the ATP Finals against fed n cudnt put it anywhere. jst rushes it all the time. but... his down the line powerhouse serve was letting him down more than any thing.. then relying on the topsin serve down the line was a pure gimmie..
