Guide how to download and install the patch

Postby Abuigi » Wed, 02 Feb 2005 11:05

This is important imformation for every PC Top Spin player so I therefore urge you to read this.

To play online on Gamespy you will have to download and install the patch that fixed the online problems that existed before. If you do not have this patch it's almost impossible to play a normal match online without running into problems!

The link where you can download the patch is http://www.gamershell.com/download_7854.shtml .

When you've downloaded it make sure you extract to a different folder than the Top Spin game folder. Name the new folder 'TS Patch' for example. That's where the files will be extracted to.

When you've extracted the files to the folder you'll see there are 2 of them. Now open the general game folder (where you've installed Top Spin).

First of all you take the .exe file (with the Top Spin logo) from the Patch folder and you drag it into the general game folder. It will now ask you to replace the file. Click yes.

Then there's the onlinepart.dll file. You'll notice that within the general game folder there are more folders. Open the OnlinePart folder. Finally, drag the OnlinePart.dll file from the Patch folder into this folder. It will once again ask you to replace the file. Press yes again.

That's it! You should now be able to play on Gamespy without any problems (if your opponent has the patch installed as well of course).

I read this e-mail...i've installed the patch some weeks ago, but i havent't a folder named onlinepart, so i extracted the file in the main folder where there is the onlinepart.dll file, and overwrote it.It's the same?
The game work well, but sometimes at the launch it exit itself and say that the opponent leaved, but it isn't right. Can be this the cause? [i don't think buti try :) ]

There isn't a Online.dll folder. You must copy the new Online.dll in the Atari folder with the Topspin.exe too. And with Win98, it seems incompatible with it and the game is asynchron.

Hmm I suppose I have an onlinepart folder then because at first I extracted the wrong way. Anyway the onlinepart.dll file should be replaced :).

Note that the French link is now requiring registration, so you might like to use the atari.de link:

http://www.de.atari.com/productpage.php?productID=397

Click Updates (on the right), Patch #1, then 'download starten'.

or try it directly here (5MB):

ftp://ftp.download-center.com/internati ... _Patch.zip

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the patch can also be downloaded via file Planet which all PC Users will have access to when they log into Gamespy.

They simply go to File Planet & do a search for Top Spin & it then leads you to info on the game from where the Patch can be downloaded I believe.

I haven't been to File Planet for a while but it was certainly there the last time I looked.

So it's for this. You can't play with pirate version, patch is only for original. Sorry

Yes, you both need the patch. It is unusual to have this asynchron problem with the patch.

Check that you have both copied the OnlinePart(r).dll and topspin.exe across correctly.
