Beginners Racquet

Beginners Racquet

Postby SlicerITST » Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:10

I am going to be picking up tennis as a sport pretty soon. Getting some lessons to improve my basic shots and then join some friends that are already further then me in friendly matches.

I dont really want to spent top money on acquiring an expensive racquet. Nor do i have any knowledge of things like tension and weight of a racquet. So i am wondering if any of you guys could give me a good tip with what to begin playing.

It depends on what you plan to do long-term.

If you plan to play for a long time, take some lessons, get kind of serious, etc.... then go for something just around $100. You'll get something that will never need to be replaced - unless you break it, or decide later on that you really want to get more serious. At this point, it's not going to matter much, and since you don't know what type of player you will be, it's impossible to know what it "best". I would go into a shop, tell them you want a racquet around 100 square inches, around 10 ounces, and that you don't want to spend a lot of money. The main reason it is better to go into a shop instead of buying online - you need someone to help you get the correct grip size.

But if you just want to go out and play a few times, then you could go for a $30 aluminum racquet.
