Who will be the first American to beat Roger Federer?

Postby Sherlock 117 » Tue, 13 Nov 2007 00:25

With Roddick playing well it seems and Federer perhaps not 100%, it is possible this question will be answered soon, or not.

I'm sure Federer will lose to some American, at some point in time, and I just want to know who you think will be the one to finally break through. Somebody asked me this question a week ago and I thought it sounded kind of interesting.

I just really like Donald Young. He's about to break into the top 100, and should be able to start rising in the rankings rapidly, based on what I've seen of him.

Barring Andy Roddick doing it, which I also seriously considered saying, or Sam Querrey improving a lot in the next year or so, I think Young will rise in talent just about the time Federer is falling, and he will have the best chance of beating the guy.

Pete Sampras. They're playing 3 exibitions after the Masters and I think Federer will let him win one.

The only one who even stands a chance is Roddick. I agree Donald Young is super-talented, but it will be a while before he can beat Federer.

I think Roddick can beat him if he has a really good day and Federer hasnt been playing his best in the past month so Roddick might have a chance in the Masters Cup

Roddick.

If Blake were to do this, he would have to bring his thinking-cap with him on the court!! 8)

This is a bit out of subject. But just to continue another poll. I must say sorry. I said Ferrer and Roddick seemed to me without the level to play on the Masters Cup but I must say sorry. Roddick impressed me. His backhand is much better and he played very consisten, with patience waiting for the opportunities to win the points. Ferrer just won to Nadal and I don't think Nadal played bad, simply Ferrer was playing really well. Long balls, extremely powerful and amazingly consistent.
Federer lost to Gonzalez so maybe we can see Fernando or David holding the trophy.

There was me thinking that was Chris until I saw how good he was!

On a serious note: I don't think he will ever beat Federer because by the time he is on tour Federer will be retired. There is a very good chance that he will be on tour though since he is amazing! Potential top 10 player I would say but time will tell. :D
