Disappointed with this year's Australian Open

Postby willybeama » Sat, 26 Jan 2013 05:20

I must say that I haven't had the opportunity to watch all the matches yet so I'm not sure how much what i say counts for anything. I think my primary disappointment is with the women's tour. It is becoming more and more evident that the level of play in the women's draw seems to be less and less depth with each new year. My favorite player, Venus, is not playing at her peak anymore. Serena and her are the last of the great generation. I hated Capriati with a vengeance but I got to give it to her, bitch could play her ass off. You just don't see the level anymore on the women's side. Men's tennis is fun but it's too long some times for my attention span. I might become less of a fan if some players don't start bringing things up a level. My hope is riding on Madison Keys at the moment. I predict she will be a Wimbledon champ in 2 years, hopefully...

Alright, i'm done bellyaching.

Nowadays, the first 10 days of a Grand Slam are a waste of time. No need to watch cause you know in the end it's gonna be Federer, Djokovic, Murray and Ferrer (Nadal, when healthy). Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

In my eyes, first 10 days of AO were much more entertaining than QF,SF and final :) There were a lot of matches and more entertaining matches :)

Nole-Wawrinka is gonna be among the Top 10 matches 2013 for sure. Murray-Federer was pretty good though.

Yeah, and what happened, same thing that always happens: Djokovic, Murray, Federer and Ferrer. No drama in that.

The drama is watching the matches in the hope that someone can pull off an upset.

This form of drama isn't all that great, because it's only a hope and you can generally tell who is going to win, which kinda sucks.

Yep. Would've loved to see Wawrinka causing an upset or Almagro reaching the semi but their mental strength is piss poor compared to the Top guys. That's really what separates the Top 5 from the rest.

Sloane Stephens will be moving up to No 17. There's a potential future rivalry with Laura Robson who has cracked the Top 50.

Yeah, kinda like watching a Tom Cruise movie and hoping that he will get shot and die. Never happens. Always alive at the end. Same thing with Djokovic/Federer/Murray/Ferrer. :) Wawrinka shot Djokovic. Didn't die. Still alive at the end. 8)

Exactly. It can be dramatic and exciting, it just lacks depth and is resolved in the expected manner anyway. :P

Also, yeah. Sloane Stephens and Laura Robson will be an interesting rivalry. The Brit vs the Colonial. 8)
