Wow second day that play has been CANCELLED. I mean...what can you do? I think it's time the officials of the USTA think about investing in a roof at least for Ashe and Armstrong. All the other grand slams have roofs now and U.S. being the grandest and biggest tour of them all should start drawing the blueprint NOW! I mean it really isn't fair to the fans or especially the players who play all year and want to recover for the next tournament. Schedules are out of control but at least they made it until the Quarters. Unlucky for the men though who play best 3 of 5. I'm thinking we could finally finish a major here at ITST before the pros do.

A roof on Ashe as it is now would definitely be too expensive, but Ashe is a terrible stadium as it is. I've read that people have suggested just chopping off the top part of Ashe and then putting a roof on it, since the upper deck seats are so far up there and have a really poor view of the tennis.....but they also say the USTA would never do that since the stadium is only about 15 years old and it would mean admitting they made a mistake building it.

The US Open Administration has been doing a lot of bullsh*ts. Going up the first round on Wednesday and the Super-Saturday should not exist.

Place panels all around the court to prevent the wind from affecting the game which is really annoying imo, also a special type of roof that will protect the pitch would be fine so the schedule wont get tighter... Its a GS afterall , they should be able to afford it...

A piece of plastic sheeting over the roof is preferable to this. BTW what charlatan built the stadium? cure its big but really susceptible to wind and with no way of fitting a roof yeah great job.

Yeah, putting roofs on outdoor tennis stadiums is a fairly recent trend. When they built Ashe, tennis was bigger in the U.S., so a huge stadium probably seemed like the best option at the time.

If they had put a roof on it, some people would say they were stupid for not making it hold more people.

Doesn't have as much of a wind problem though. Its probably more to do with location than anything, i hear its built on a landfill? And the water table is pretty close to the ground level. The wind is probably due to it being such a beast of a stadium it traps and whirls it.

Course when it was built as rob says sampras, agassi, even courier and chang were still playing and getting results. now US tennis isn't that healthy at the top. But we should probably remember this is a anomaly, the weather has caused monday finishes for sure but never so bad the courts have cracked with water seeping. and besides this could easily happen to wimby, fair enough the roof is in place but its only one court, and if you played all the matches on it the grass would be completely destroyed, it already is by the end of the tourny on the baseline, but the whole court would be a dust bowl.
