Federer upset by Baghdatis at Indian Wells!

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) -- Marcos Baghdatis upset top-ranked Roger Federer 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open, beating the Swiss for the first time in seven meetings.

A joyous Baghdatis bent down and kissed the court Tuesday night after closing out the taut contest in which Federer blew three match points.

Federer lost for just the second time in 13 matches this year in his first tournament since winning his 16th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January.

Federer held a match point on Baghdatis' serve in the 12th game, but he netted a backhand for deuce. Baghdatis went up and then forced the tiebreaker when Federer mis-hit a backhand return that sailed high in the air beyond the baseline.

I also love copy-and-paste.
But what are your opinions, what did you think of the match?

You know I reckon these best of three setters don't faze Federer that much nowadays.
Sure he's disapointed that he lost but I always get the impression that the Slams is where his main motivation and drive is at.

He should really have closed this one out though.
I mean he blew 3 match points?! also had a 4-1 lead in the third.
At times I thought, even though Baggy played well, that Federer almost just allowed him back in the match. Should have closed this one out in straights, imo.

Anyway, congrats to Baghdatis. If he could string a few more of these results together and go on and win a Masters, that would be something
I wouldn't be holding my breath on that one though.

He isn't unbeatable anymore in best of three. I can completely guarantee though if it was 5 sets he would have won the last two.

Likos - how did I know you'd be the first to post this.

As much as I love to see him lose, best of three doesn't mean much. He's still the man to beat at the French. But until then Rog, nuh-nuh-na-na..... nuh-nuh-na-na..... hey hey..... goodbye.

Because he has to. ALl the prox must play the 4 grand slams and the atp 1000 ( actually 9+monte carlo). If they don't, they get a penalty if not injured.

I think Fed is only using Masters series to train...If he can win one he'll do it (since he wil come closer to Agassi's record...) but he won't do anything in the world to do so...I guess he has the feeling that when he'll stop his carrer he'll have more Masters than Agassi anyway...So he's very cool about Master Series and very VERY serious when it's Slams...

 wow, Marcos is such a great player, he can beat aynone when he has a good day,btw Federer didn´t play well against Hanescu either.
I know i shouldn´t but i´m "slightly" happy, sorry hahahaha

Baghdatis' strategy:

1. Don't take any chances, just get ball back in play.
2. Wait for Federer to make mistake.

Strategy worked.

i don't think you even watched the match. marcos was forcing federer to "make mistake", his forehand was on fire yesterday.

I watched the match. Federer was more bad than Baghdatis was good. Basically, the match was Federer's and he gave it away.

cmon, federer blew 3 match points, its not that baghdatis owned fed, if fed would've hold the break in the third and win one of the three match points we'd be saying nothing about this game, just like hanescu's one..roger lost a set but nothing happened cause he won..if he would've won today, it would ve been another normal match in which he lost a set..

as he lost three match points, suddenly baghdatis can win a masters 1000..and roger should stop playing masters 1000?
