Roger Federer Withdraws from Davis Cup

Postby Cro Morgan » Thu, 31 Dec 2009 17:09

Q. When will the ATP learn that the prestige of the Davis Cup needs to be seriously enhanced?

A. Never. :weirdo

Why they don't change it to a once every three years event (or two years, or four years) I'll never know.

Anyway, for the record....

Roger Federer Disappoints Tennis Fans with Davis Cup Withdrawal

This happens every single year, but every year it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of tennis fans. Roger Federer has again decided to pull out of a first round Davis Cup clash.

From 2005 to 2009, Federer has skipped the first round every year only to come back and be the hero every September as he saves the Swiss team from relegation. He's only played 12 Davis Cup matches since 2005.

You are asking this question all over again

But you come nearer to us. You were used to ask why it does not become ane very 4 year event.

The Davis Cup is a very interesting competition. However, it needs to be made more attractive for the players, but as far as I see it they are working on it. First evidence was that they awarded single ranking points for every match. In my opinion they should make it obligatory for the top 10 players, but that will never happen as Davis Cup does not really belong to ATP.

I think the problem is in the core concept of Davis Cup. Tennis is an individual sport, not a team sport.....so it is safe to say the situation will not change.

I like Davis cup a lot, but I believe it will always be plagued by top players pulling out....randomly.

Very true, but surely the ATP can bend the arm of the ITF (if they felt it necessary).

I'm a pretty hardcore tennis fan, but I have absolutely no interest in watching Davis Cup matches. It's a second-rate tournament - which is why I 'm baffled at how crazy gung-ho the players behave when they win. I guess the sense of patriotism trumps common sense. :?

He does not want to play because he knows Switzerland does not stand a chance of winning unless other countries are not able to provide their best players, which is still possible. However, it is totally out of his control. And it might jeopardize his chances of winning more slams.

Why does he always say he will play then drop out? Just go ahead and say you are not playing.

Like in Alabama last year, I was thinking of buying tickets to it because federer said he would be there. I would have been pissed if I bought them and he decided not to come

well, maybe if they made it more gratifying or offered prize money--something of that nature then more top players would play, but the way the rankings are these days its just too much damned tennis to play davis cup and all the other tourneys as well--maybe he doesnt like his fellow country man stan the man

Honestly i don´t care if Fed plays or not,but i guess he thinks Swiss doesn´t have great chances of doing something great, with or without him
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I think the Davis Cup should be reduced to only once every 4 years, like the world cup. This would give it more of an important feel, as most players could only play 2-3 times in their career.

I think the whole thing is a friggin farce and needs to be eliminated...no, I'm really not joking or being facetious, I really hate the gilded turd that is Davis Cup.

I enjoy watching some of the matches just for the sake of having tennis matches to watch, but I can't get involved in it at all... I don't care for the stupid crowds that straight-up disrespect the visitors...I don't like the 'team' aspect at all...it's just boring as sin, and I don't care if 'my country' wins...let's face it, when the aliens come to slaughter us all, all nationalities will evaporate in an instant as we band together as 'Earthlings'.

I do not know. Davis Cup is a fun event to play in but should not be a shocker if a person does not play it. If they want to make it serious, give them some points for playing (I mean decent points and put extensive media coverage on it).

Anything to save a taste of Davis Cup is great. I think the World Cup would be nice, as long the top players keep their end of the bargain.

It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the players. The EVENT controls the players! Nobody drops out of The Olympics because they/he/she wants to save their time/energy for whatever whatever.
