Will Kim Win The Open?

Postby fedfan » Sun, 13 Sep 2009 16:50

OK enough with all the talk of that semi-final and lets appreicate the saviour of womens tennis Kim Clijsters.

After more than 2 years away from the game to start a family Kim has brought her fantastic game and wonderful attitude back to the courts in emphatic style.

She is aiming to become the first Mother since Evonne Goolagong to win a major along with the first female wild card to do so.

The way she has stuck it to both Williams sisters on her way to the final is a feat in itself and I hope she can complete a dream return later tonight.

I voted for "Kim goes crazy" purely because that choice was there...ha ha. :)

Seriously though, she should definitely take it, and it shouldn't be too difficult for her. Hopefully Wozniacki will at least make a match out of it. Regardless of the outcome, I'm happy for both of them for making it this far, and like I said in another thread, I'm glad there's now another player around that can go toe-to-toe with the Williams sisters.

I look at Wozniaki's match with Kuznetsova as a good indicator of what may happen.

In that match the Dane only hit 16 winners compared to 59 from the Russian but her errors were only 25 compared to 63  and it still went all the way to a final breaker. Plus that's more winners in one match from Kuznetsova than Wozniaki has managed in 6 matches total.

I can only see Kim playing similar offensive tennis but with a heck of a lot more control than that and taking Wozniaki way out of her comfort zone. If Dementieva can crush her 2&1 a couple of weeks ago Kim definately can.

Yeah, Kuzy really disappointed me in that match. She played way too aggressively and just didn't execute. It was like watching a TS3 match where one of the players just holds the triggers down the entire time...it was ugly.

It seems like moderation between defense and offense is the key to success, in TS3 and in real life. You won't win by just keeping the ball in play every time, but you won't win by going for broke every time either.

Kim will come out and blow her off the court in the beginning. Then, just like she used to do in Major finals, she will start to slip and almost lose it. She'll still win, but her nerves will make it close near the end.

Voted that she will take it in two sets. I only voted this, because Kim has been known for choking when she is so close to winning an event or having a big win over something.

With her match with Serena, she reminded me of Henin's mentality. So, I hope she keeps that up.

Can you imagine Clijsters playing Henin at her prime!!?

No need to imagine it - they played each other 22 times.

Yes. I mean when Henin (well if she were to) come back. The WTA tour needs this.

Kim looks better than what she has ever played in her tennis career. :D

Kim looks better than ever before (her whole WTA career, in my opinion).

So, if we can have her at her prime, and Henin at her prime, it will be great for the WTA. :)

I don't like Henin...She is like the Mutant...She used to scream some "Allez!" ("come on") when the ball wasn't on the ground yet...That was sooo "assuming too much"...But what a Bh!!!

^ Just face it, Q...Murray is the Mutant, Ana Ivanovic has fat, masculine legs, and Henin is the Belgian Mutant.

You guys are totally insane.
