I think that would be mainly to do with the focus on the more modern side of British side. It featured a lot about modern technology such as television and music and the 'digital age' that is now.

Personally, I would have found it much more enjoyable had they started earlier and worked towards the Industrial Revolution. For example if it depicted the Roman occupation of Britain, maybe Invasions by Vikings, or a nod to the colonial ways of Britain. I find that era of history much more exciting and interesting than more recent history.

That kinda stuff while cutting out the silly love story would have improved it a lot, in my opinion.

It shouldnt be compared to Beijing. That one was typically for a big country. The big is better mentality. It needed to have the most fireworks ever, the most dancers, the longest duration, the most expensive. Just to show how powerful the nation of China is. Not strange that you would find that more interesting seeing as you are from the USA. :P

The opening ceremony should show something about the country hosting it. And thats what it did this year.

@Vieira151: Im pretty sure stuff from the colonial era wouldnt have gone to well with everyone. Im pretty sure they left that out on purpose.

You guys are still talking about the ceremony

Bejing was perfectly executed but perfection is boring. It's the little ****ups which remain memorable.

My favourite part

BS. ;)

Both are Olympics, they SHOULD be compared. By that logic, we should not compare records from countries that have more athletes? :?

It was not about bigger (that too), it was more creative, captivating. It was simply a much better production.

You now using the "bigger-better" as a shield against anything. Similar to black guy not getting a job that he is not qualified to do and saying: "oh, they didn't hire me cause they hate black people".

Isner and del Po are pretty bad on grass cuz they can't move well enough. Raonic too.
Tsonga has a good chance at a silver. del Po could get bronze if he serves out of his mind.... but he'd probably have to beat Fed to get there, and that ain't happening on grass. Isner actually has a better chance.

Simon is too smart for him. That is why Dimitrov is nowhere at the moment (considering the talent).

Simon type.....then Ferrer type. These two guys are like the Level Testers. You can't beat them with talent alone.

Main difference for me, London ceremony cost £24 million, and only games ever to come in on budget, Beijing opening ceremony cost close to $280 million so it may have been a bit better, but ten times better?

Now don't play with the numbers there. 280 million USD is 'only' 180 million GBP, so not even six times as much...

Anyway, I liked the ceremonies. Don't recall the Beijing one though, but this one suited GB.
One thing they should change is the entrance of the teams, takes way too long. You either fall asleep or zap away during that nonsense. Since they're athletes, they might as well just run in there, can easily save an hour by doing so.

man do i agree i have always felt thay way and this is why i havent bought into the raonic hype .for me david ferrer is the acid test for any of the young guns looking to join the elite and until they beat ferrer especially the hype machine that is raonic, i dont think they are going to cut as elite players .

given the massive difference in our two economies and the advanced technology edge they had over us.I say slice is right cos we simply didnt have the resources to match the spectacle that was bejing and so we didnt try to, instead we showed the world are greatest exponents of culture which include Mr bean ,007, the queen , De-la soul, British Literature , The NHS etc .

Well no, I was just meaning something along the lines of seeing an explorer or something be sent out with a group of people. I wasn't meaning like watching a battle of British fighting Indians or Aboriginees.

In fact, I think a section on William Wilberforce would have been good (about the abolition of slavery in Britain).

And Djarvik, I don't think they should have been compared. They were completely different in the way they were performed. It's like comparing apples and oranges. You can personally like one more, it's just not sensible to say one is better than the other. :P

And Tombs, they may have provided the special effects but we gave them a bus for the closing ceremony. :P
