Kournikova got a bad rap but in my opinion she is one of the most influential sports personalities of the last 20 years, certainly on the business side.

I did not believe it 100%. You saw my comment about me looking on the WTA website every day and not seeing this news.

Did you see that? So, I wanted a clarification.

I agree. People acted like she didn't care about tennis, and didn't put the work into it. Yet, she had foot injuries that are most common with over-training. I think her biggest problem was that she put too much pressure on herself.

She had pretty nice strokes (and I actually mean that in a non-sexual way for once), she definitely could have been a better singles player.

 yeah, she strokes well.

Honestly thou, I never thought she had enough raw talent. She was a good looking decent tennis player that set the trend of tennis players being hot. But that's it. No matter how much she would train, she ain't no champion.

I still remember Gabriela Sabatini as a kid in the 90s , then came Anna Kournikova, but Sabatini had genuine talent in the looks of course, but also as a player :) but just was mauled on serve my Seles and Graf , but she was a stunner

I agree. She was a decent tennis player. I think it was her mentality, like Rob said, and what I said before that held her back.

I watched her during her professional career and was not really wowed by her game. Even when she retired, she played exhibition matches for charity. I still did not like her game. It was not amusing at all, in my opinion.

in my opinion that has nothing to do with her tennis skills, Coria had the same problem, well in fact he had to quit because of that and he was a great player.
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.
