Not sure but wasn't Monfils like the most successful junior ever?

His former sprint trainer said that Monf had enough potential to run the 100m in under 10 sec. I don't think that claim is too outlandish, he was the French Junior champion. Physically he is similar to Usain Bolt.

With Reynolds' exit, it marks the first time since 1912 that no American man has reached the Wimbledon third round. Eleven Americans started in the main draw.

For a country the size of the United States, hard to believe they suck as bad as they suck.

There is no money to be made in tennis....unless you are way on top. Not enough incentive. USA has a very strong College tennis program and players...but a lot of them are choosing not to go Pros.

Do you think Isner will be the last top level college pro?

I am sure not. There a few "crazy" heads that will go to Pros anyway, or a few rich kids. US is too big not to have good players, it is just bad timing for us....we don't have that "die hard" tennis fan that WANTS to play tennis AND has the talent to be on top. We just have a bunch of mediocre hard workers. But I am sure someone will emerge. I also think the tennis will change in the next few years. The fact that players don't make enough is being brought to light as of late.... I hope more and more people take notice and show support for some sort of restructure there.

Think what you want of Gulbis, but he has been repeatedly speaking out about problems within the structure. I wish more top guys would talk about it in interviews, to media.

Take Michael Russell for example, a 15 year veteran and a top 100 player (60 highest) IN THE WORLD!

Total prize money: $1,979,669 /15 years = $131,977 a year

That is pathetic. I feel so bad for these guys.

This guy is #100 in golf:
http://espn.go.com/golf/player/_/id/3670/martin-kaymer

He made this year alone: $561,641

It's enough, certainly not pathetic. It's more than some Doctor's make in a year. :P

In my opinion, the highest level sports professionals (tennis, football, golf etc) shouldn't get ANYWHERE near what they get. I would even say that what M. Russell has earned should be what top level athletes should be getting paid. But that's another argument.

Professional athletes (and team owners) are **** greedy.

Back in the day, athletes found a job after they were done playing. If that were the case, $131,977 would be (way) more than enough to live comfortably. Save some money during your playing days, and then get a job. They shouldn't make enough money to never have to work for the rest of their lives.

I wouldn't mind athletes making that amount of money if it wasn't me, the fan, who is indirectly paying them. At a stadium, I'm sick of paying $4.00 for a bottle of water, $30.00 to park, $5.00 for a slice of pizza - not to mention the outrageous price of admission. Bullshit.
