the only reason soderling beat nadal because nadal was hitting his shots to short and they bounced up into soderlings sweet-spot

In other words, he played better than Nadal that day and deserved his win. :D

WTF, you are trippin.

That was an epic victory on Soderling's part, it was a beautiful thing to witness IMO, as much as I love Nadal's playing, it is satisfying to see somebody truly outplay him on clay, because it is so rare and Nadal is such a master on clay.

honestly i have no idea if he was injured, but Soderling was unstoppable that day, anyway i guess nobody here doubts Nadal is probably the best player on clay, so he would beat Soderling 9,99 out of 10 matches on clay

Jon, watching your signature "answer my question..." i've realized how much i miss a bit of "rivalry" between players nowadays, but not a healthy one where everybody gets along.
Imagine the following situation between Rafa and Federer.....that would be epic

I feel the EXACT same way.

Connors and McEnroe absolutely HATED EACH OTHER.

It's interesting that you say that now actually, because that is, to me, one of the things that made Soderling beating Rafa at the French SOOOOO sweet.

There was still some bad blood between those two (from the 'incident' at Wimbledon), and you could really tell they both completely hated each other and that this was a very, very personal match for both of them.

I love that!! I think it's awesome.

Look at this reaction!! It says it all!

Definitely think a bit of heated rivalry can be very interesting. I think what made Soderling's victory so sweet for everyone watching has something to do with their dislike for each other too. I think Nadal came in thinking 'Now you're on my turf, I'm gonna teach you a serious tennis lesson!' and so did everyone watching. But then it was so fascinating watching someone bullying Nadal on clay for a change. I mean, he played a heck of a match, painting all the lines that day and I don't think he'd ever do that again to Nadal but I loved that match. :)

Probably people also got sick of seeing Nadal win all the time and usually so easily in Roland Garros too!

If Söderling plays like he did in the 4th round 2009 against Rafa and the quarter 2010 against Roger he can beat anyone on clay. I don t say he will but he can.
